Officials issued more mandatory evacuations early Saturday as the latest forecast for Hurricane Irma turned more bleak for Tampa Bay.
Hillsborough County issued a mandatory evacuation for Zone A, as well as for all residents in mobile homes, starting at 8 a.m.
Pinellas County expanded its mandatory evacuations to Zone B, opening 16 additional shelters. The latest order means all residents in evacuation levels A, B and mobile homes should take shelter by dusk Saturday. The order went into effect immediately.

Neice and nephew in Port Charlotte. Not sure where they’re going to go now.
Judging by the meager response to this thread, Freepers just don’t give a damn about Florida. I posted an article yesterday about military troop and national guard call-outs in Florida in response to Irma, and state/federal coordination, but the thread just died with less than 4 replies. Something’s up with the FR population and it ain’t very pretty. Houston and Harvey got a lot of threads and sympathy on FR, so why is Florida and Irma so different?
It’s still early. I’ve got a nephew in Tallahassee. I’ve offered him money to help him get out, but I think he’s more interested in the thrill. It may not be the kind of thrill he wants.
Thanks. Looked yesterday and one has a house in a Zone B and the other is in a Zone A. Saw some video this morning from my nephew as he was getting ready to head wherever. and they’re going someplace but haven’t said where yet. Lots of friends on the east coast in the Cocoa Beach area. Hopefully they’ll do okay with the new track. We did the Charlie Jean Francis fiasco. Now power ain’t fun in FL in August. Meanwhile in Reno this morning it was 52 degrees. Prayers up for our Florida folks.
Anyone that don’t know where to go in Hillsborough Co should check this link...

It shows the demographics of a the schools in the county broken down by race of every student that attends that school!
I have been reading all threads on FL even though I’m in Houston cause my sister lives in Anna Maria Island. Have tried to restrain myself in terms of commenting as I felt Floridians need to be all business for survival. Now storm shifted westward and trying to find out if Anna Maria is mandatory.
Many are open mouthed at the magnitude of this storm does not mean they don’t care. 24/7 news coverage.
Just a minor thought, what was your response when the entire town of Anderson, KS was wiped off the map by a tornado a few years ago or what did you do or what was your response when half the town of Joplin, MO was destroyed by a tornado (we don't give tornados names or even numbers, so maybe that's the reason we get so little response nationwide)?
Other than our sincere prayers for all in the path of a hurricane, don't exactly know the reason for your concerns about little to no response.
Be glad hurricanes give you days and many hours to evacuate to safer ground - unfortunately, tornados offer no such warning, only minutes at best and that's usually in the middle of the night.
We also have massive floods and powerful snow and ice storms but other than the occasional passing glance on some national weathercast, no one ever comments.
In Hillsborough County mandatory evac for Zone A. To get to Zone D you’d have to have 37 to 40 feet of storm surge height. Just to put this into perspective. Zone A is minimal storm surge.
Nobody is left on FR after the 2016 election, and on weekends it’s even worse.
Lookin at Port Charlotte maps looks like min 3 feet at one house and maybe 6 at another. Fingers crossed. When we lived on the east side (Cocoa) we were at around 35 feet elevation and about 12 miles inland as the crow flew from the beach.
I will give your thread a ‘hit’. I am in Missouri, and other than ‘pray’, there is nothing I can do to assist anyone in Florida. I suspect that the people in the Southeast are fairly busy prepping for their safety and do not have much time ‘yet’ to be talking about what is happening in real time.
In my post I compared and questioned the coverage of Harvey in Houston to Irma in Florida. What the hell does that have to do with tornadoes in the Ozarks? It amazes me the number of Freepers who will jump at the chance to take any remark out of context to justify a smartass accusatory reply. Grow up or stop drinking. Or both.
I know of a couple in Port Charlotte and they are staying in their home.
Kin folks were staying but changed with the altered path. Hopefully they only have to go a few miles inland to high ground shelters. Some friends from the Cocoa area took to the road the other day tho head north of Atlanta and it took them a little over 20 hours to get there in a motor home.
Some possible reasons:
1) Hurricane news fatigue. Same thing happens with all the big hurricanes.
2) There is an active Irma thread where the hurricane groupies hang out.
3) Most comments come after a disaster, not during the prepping phase.
4) Life goes on elsewhere and people aren’t glued to the TV or internet.
5) People get so annoyed by those trying to stir up panic that they just want nothing to do with it.
You missed the long, long threads yesterday and Thursday? Thousands of responses. Possibly many of those who responded are now on the road.

Sounded a bit like jealousy of "TV coverage," on a hurricane that has yet to hit, which it obviously is but also slamming FReepers for "only four responses."
BTW not all the tornados happen in the Ozarks, but it's not your concern either.
God Bless and have a nice day.
News weary I think after Harvy. I have family in FLA. Right in the area expected to receive Irma’s land fall, and there isn’t a damn thing I can do to assist them. They are elderly...over 80 years old with health issues, bit fully capable of making their own decisions. All I CAN do is pray, make a phone call and say I love you.
There are several people on this forum who will be impacted by this storm, and we are ALL helpless in the face of it except to cry out to God Almighty for mercy and salvation in his wisdom.
Never assume you know the mind or heart of another just because your posts aren’t well received. This is a fast moving forum with many posts sliding off on to back pages before they’re even seen. I for one didn’t see your post. Finally, many are overwhelmed by what’s happening with these hurricanes to the point that there aren’t even words left to write.
