The entire Florida Peninsula and points north are poised to experience Hurricane Irma after the storm hugged Cuba's northern coastline. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Hurricane Irma's prolonged interaction with Cuba diminished its strength to Category 3.
Irma is forecast to increase in strength as it crosses the FL Straits. The Florida Keys experienced strong outer bands while Irma grazed the N Cuba coastline.

My whole career was in Naples and I know what you are saying. I have many friends that are riding it out for whatever happens. Some are going to call me when its past and they can. Your advice is very good , its not something one can fathom living 3000 miles away. Its home and very difficult to leave if even possible.
I keep reading that this may even go more west than forecast due to a delay in making the turn. It could actually stay mostly over water all the way to the panhandle. Meaning more time to strengthen. Its all just still speculation at this point though.
Maybe we should try that with FReepers.

Yeah, I think Tampa’s going to get wiped out, then Atlanta. People have forgotten what a massive hurricane can do. We haven’t had a lot together like this since 2005.

Not to minimize the gravity of the situation, but I thought that photo and concept was hilarious and genius together at the same time.
