As some of you know, on yesterday's Clubland Q&A I discussed why, for the first time since we launched SteynOnline in 2002, we did not re-post material from September 11th 2001 and the days that followed. As I put it:
If this is a war, there's no agreement on what we're up against: Terrorism? Islamic terrorism? Islamic extremism? Islam? Whatever it is, a president who, on the campaign trail, mocked his predecessor's inability to use the words "radical Islam" himself eschewed all mention of the I-word today. September 11th 2001 was supposedly "the day everything changed" - if by "everything changed" you mean "the rate of mass Muslim immigration to the west doubled". As that absurd statistic suggests, we are not where I thought we would be 16 years on: We run around fighting for worthless bits of barren sod like Helmand province in Afghanistan, while surrendering day by day some of the most valuable real estate on the planet, such as France and Sweden.

I thought that was an alternate title for Hillary’s book.
I didn’t watch any 9/11 tributes or documentaries. They would have simply reminded me of the fact that we are losing “the war”. The West learned nothing on 9/11 as Steyn so succinctly puts it.
If neither Trump nor Mattis mentioned Islam, Trump is being swamped.
It’s easier to see in retrospect.
The West would slam a few obvious rogues but then be way too nice and invite in far more rogues.
It has happened before too as in the World Wars.
A return in faith in a biblical God who is wise, who desires to be kind, but who can be very severe when it comes to removing obstacles, is the only thing that will lead the West out of ill considered military adventures.
It might not have been wrong to purge Iraq of Saddam Hussein, but it didn’t need a liberal democracy. A stern but benign kingdom would suit its people’s culture better. As the proverb goes, a rod for the back of a fool (which doesn’t need to mean cruelty, but only stern direction).
Perhaps by Javanka?
I pray Trump is led by wisdom from the Lord.
It may be that not even Islam is the worst evil the Western world faces. Islam is often honest about its hate. The worst evil is the one that disunites the West under the pretense of elevating various other things that may even be good but are inferior to the very best things.
Often God allows disasters and tragedies to illuminate this fact. It hurts us even worse to not love one another than it does to be hated by savage people.

As always, Mark Steyn connects the hammer to the nail with panache.
