Feds Spend $187,704 to Improve Older Women’s Sex Lives

The National Institutes of Health is spending nearly $200,000 on a study that seeks to improve older women's sex lives through mindfulness meditation.

The University of Pittsburgh received the funding for the project, which began last month. Mindfulness, a New Age meditation technique of thinking about thoughts, will be used as an intervention to get women older than 50 more active in the bedroom.

In nursing homes it is different. My big beef with the people managing the study was that none of them had ever taken care of an old person in a hospital situation. I had done so and it bothered me that they were pushing a Golden Girl mindset on people who had to have sexual techniques explained to them in order to be able to answer the questions.

Most of the women I met when I worked in the hospital married the love of their life when they were 18 and stayed married to him and had four or more children. They were not sluts. They were loving grandmothers.

As a result of my experience I never did find the Golden Girls very funny.
