Safety was an issue for a public business.

With private contracts ir commissions, then the interests of the artist or craftsman are paramount.

I can ask a builder to build me a log yurt, but if he isn’t interested, he can just say, “not interested.”

Do you consider those who do not wish associate with unrepentant homosexuals bigots?

I believe in freedom of conscience, even of business owners, and of freedom of association. You apparently believe there should be government force compelling everyone to expose their secret feelings. Creepy.

What's wrong with "We reserve the right to refuse service for any reason?"

What's wrong with being specific?

Why does the business owner have an obligation to make your search for a service provider trouble-free?

Keeps the business owner from wasting their time as well.

He has already invested his time and property in establishing his business. He owes you nothing more at that point

Not even customer service? Or non-customer service as the case may be?

That's your term, not mine. Why people don't want to associate with people is their own business. Just be honest about not wanting to associate.

And government forcing them to associate is better in your view?

i understand that, but rather than lose everything i worked a lifetime to build, i'd make them regret they forced me to do their biding...

but some would rather stand on principal and lose all
