New Steve McQueen Film Tells Story of Hollywood Icon's Christian Faith

A new film set to be released this week tells the story of Hollywood icon Steve McQueen and how he became a Christian before he received a lethal cancer diagnosis and succumbed to the disease.

Called "Steve McQueen: American Icon," the film will appear in theaters beginning Sept. 28. The film's producer Greg Laurie and McQueen's widow Barbara Minty McQueen spoke with Newsmax TV's Bill Tucker on "Newsmax Now" about the project.

"I wanted to tell the story of how Steve, when he was the No. 1 movie star in the world, became a Christian," said Laurie, who is also a pastor and author. "And most people don't know the story that the king of cool met the king of kings.

"We all know that Steve tragically got cancer and died at the very young age of 50 in 1980. But he came to faith before he found out he had cancer. … He walked away from [Hollywood], found faith in Christ that brought him what he was searching through his whole life."

We incur a legal debt to God when we sin because sin is breaking the Law of God. Payments are made to legal debts.

Jesus paid for our sins - He took our sins upon Himself and died with them. He took our place and made a legal payment according to the Law.

Interesting.

The world is full of the triune God religious symbolism.

Any good story is symbolic of salvation and resurrection - they all are. Every single story.

It all is - because that is the way He created.

Wait a sec...if the point is that Steve McQueen always was a model Christian, well, baloney. However, it seems the point of this is that McQueen, when he was I’ll, realized he was a miserable sinner who had led a life that was littered with mistakes, and that he need repent before death or he would not go to Heaven. Objections?

Before or after becoming a “super Christian.”

Either way, more evidence of mans sin and need of a saviour.

Btw, please define “super Christian.”

Actually towards the last year of his life did McQueen turned his life to God. Billy Graham testified that he saw McQueens new found faith personally right before he died

What is missing in the 2011 Daily Mail article and the Newsmax article is his conversion to Christianity. However it sounds like, reading both, is that the abuse stopped after he became a Christian. But, hey, cheap shots of condemning folks as Christians because of their pre-Christian life, are common from anti-Christians.

“He beat his wife, took drugs and slept around but he was a super christian!”

I think the idea is that he REPENTED.

“He beat his wife, took drugs and slept around but he was a super christian!”

So you’re saying that the thief on the cross couldn’t possibly have gone to Heaven, considering his life of sin? What about Saul/Paul? People do make their decisions for Christ later in life with all kinds of “baggage” - legal and otherwise.

Sounds like those activities were prior to becoming a Christian. That is what Jesus does...He changes people.

And St. Paul condoned murdering Christians, so what is your point?

Some people invited me to join them to go see this film, but I declined because I could not find any reviews.

I always check out pluggedinonline.com before making my rare trips to see movies in the theater.

Guess if it is worthwhile I will see on video.

I was hoping the Blade Runner sequel would be worth seeing. I already know it has content that will eliminate it from my theatrical viewing list. Too bad.

Looking forward to seeing Genesis 3D.

Hollywood just does not put out much worth watching these days. Trying to find something worth going to see in the theater is like eating gourmet food out of a dumpster.

And sadly even Christian films are an unreliable category. The Kendrick Brothers have a solid track record for Christian films. Wish there were more like the ones they make.

Just hold it there kiddo; I have probably committed every sin known to man and GOD, with the exception that I have never struck a woman.
I was born again in 1975 and have tried mightily not to commit any of those sins again, and have failed in that endeavor several times, but I do keep trying.
GOD gave his only SON on the cross so that MY sins could be washed away, not just mine, but also yours and Mr. McQueen’s.
Just remember, judgement belongs to GOD, not us.

King David committed adultery with Bathsheba and impregnated her. Then David tried to hide his sin by ordering her husband Uriah home from the battlefield in hopes he would sleep with his wife and believe the baby was his. When that didn’t work he ordered his military leader Joab to place Uriah on the front lines and then fall back, leaving him exposed to attack so he would likely be killed, which he was.

Despite all of his sins, the Bible says David was a man after God’s own heart. David truly sinned, but he also truly repented and possessed unshakable faith.

What you must understand is this very simple, yet profound, truth: GRACE IS FOR THE GUILTY. Jesus Christ came to seek and save the lost.
