Bolton: U.S. Should Support Independence for Kurds, ‘State of Iraq as We Have Known It Doesn’t Exist
Breitbart ^ | 28 Sep 2017 | John Hayward

Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton joined SiriusXM host Raheem Kassam and co-host Steve Bannon on Thursday’s Breitbart News Daily to talk about Kurdish independence and the future of Iraq.

“The Kurds are one of the largest ethnic groups in the world that has never had a nation in contemporary times,” Bolton explained. “Just two days ago, they held a referendum in Iraqi Kurdistan and voted well over 90 percent for independence. I think the United States should support independence for the Kurds. They’ve been friends of ours in the struggle against Saddam Hussein and the struggle against international terrorism. I think they’d be an important buffer against Iran.”

“And let’s face it: the state of Iraq as we have known it doesn’t exist anymore, and it’s not coming back together,” he added. “The Baghdad government is controlled by the ayatollahs from Tehran. The American strategy to defeat ISIS, which has relied so heavily on the Baghdad government, I think has been a mistake.”

“I think it’s a mistake for the State Department now, as it did before the referendum, to tell the Kurds ‘don’t hold it,’ and opposing now the inevitable consequences. They’re now going to be de jure independent,” said Bolton.

"Bannon said that Iran has effectively gained control of four Arab capitals: Baghdad, Damascus, Beirut, and Sanaa in Yemen."

And Obama gave Iran US dollars walking around money to implement this. Headshake.

About time someone in the know advocated it. The last one was Biden. 4 countries have Kurds. That’s 4 enemies. It will not be easy.

Put an American penal colony there and arm the prisoners. Make them pay their debt to society in different ways. They might even want to stay there.

They have been calling it that for a while. This is really drawing flack from Iran and Turkey.

Israel has openly stated they would support it. Saudi Arabia is for it.

We are watching interesting times.

ISIS is about to be beaten in both Iraq and Syria.

The other Islamists are having a cat.

I’m sure Trump is hearing a lot of noises about this.

No, it will not be easy. And the 4 groups of Kurds are NOT the same. Some things are, but a lot of differences.

Then in a couple of years we find out that Bolton is involved in some convoluted business deal that puts millions of dollars in the pockets of some family member, coming from some source within the independent Kurd State movement.

I’m sorry, but that’s just what I expect these days from Washington, particularly from “advisors.”

Well it is not just Bolton.

Bannon weighed in on it too.

I have no doubt it is the right thing to do. I’m not sure what the risks are and the ultimate cost.

There are some bad player vultures drooling over getting involved.

This has potential to really spill over.

The Kurds have no friends, no economy and no money. If Bolton wanted to make money, he'd sidle up, like Kissinger, to the Chinese, who are the biggest security threat to the free world in the 21st century, or the Russians, who do have money to pay tame American foreign policy personnel. Being a patriot, he has remained staunchly opposed to those he sees as threats to American interests.

I am far from one of the BS anti-war a-holes but with this rationale,Afghanistan was lost the minute the USA made a turn to Iraq and over 4000 men and women were KIA and maimed for life and the Mideast was lit on fire. This ultimately flooded Europe with Islam, destroyed Syria,Libya and Yemen as nation states, emboldened Turkey and Russia while giving Iran everything it ever wanted. All for nothing was OIF/OEF. We didn’t even get a drop of that “blood oil”! There is no do-overs in foreign policy and war.

The Iraqis have ordered the closure of the international airport in Erbil. This could get ugly soon.
There are a lot of problems in the world today caused by the arbitrary borders left by the British Empire and the break up of the Ottomen Empire. Many ethnic groups were split across different countries. In addition, some ancient enemies were pushed together into the same country. - Iraq and Burma are two bloody examples.

I don’t. He wants the US involved in every conflict on earth. If the Kurds try to establish their own state, it will make the whole region explode. Exactly what does the US get from being in the middle of that?
