He owned 3 planes.
I think that is an important point. It he really wanted to kill as many people as possible, mass casualties, he could have loaded his plane full of fuel and slammed it into a football stadium full of 70,000 people. If your sole intention to is kill a lot of people, that seems like the more destructive route.
So using guns and targeting this festival might have had a more personal reason to him. Or there was some other factor that went into his planning that we aren't aware of, yet.
Or maybe he kept some hope in the back of his mind that he was going to find a way to escape as he was planning all of this. Maybe he couldn't commit himself to full suicide until the end.

He knew it was a suicide event going in. Firing automatic weapons and murdering dozens of people. He had the pistol there to finish himself off.
So if he’s going for body count, why use the guns?
Even targeting that event, a plane would have killed more people that the rifles.

The Las Vegas airport is just a couple blocks away. He could have come in on approach, veered left and been done before anyone even noticed.
Just as much terrorism as this. This whole thing is just weird.
Paul Ryan is calling for more mental health funding. I haven’t heard that this guy had any specific mental health issues known in his past.
Unlike most of the mass murdering scum like that punk at the theatre and the scum in Sandy Hook (Don’t know their names and wouldn’t use them if I did) this guy didn’t seem to have any pathologies or people thinking he had problems.
