PHILADELPHIA -- Former District Attorney Seth Williams, a career prosecutor who chased down municipal corruption but whose tenure as Philadelphia's first black DA was mired in a corruption scandal, was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison for accepting a bribe.

The two-term Democrat didn't speak during the hearing and instead had his attorney read a statement in which he apologized and said he had failed the people of Philadelphia.

"Rather than holding myself to a higher standard, I squandered that trust placed in me," the statement said. As his lawyer read it, Williams' face grew flush and he wiped away tears with a tissue.

U.S. District Judge Paul Diamond said the 50-year-old Williams "humiliated" his office and the city by selling it to "parasites."

"Your profound dishonesty has to be deterred," Diamond said before ordering that Williams be imprisoned immediately.

Folks, every now and again, you begin to believe things that aren't true. I know with me, I walked around for years saying Bin Laden was long gone dead. Then, one bright spring morning in 2011, I learned that my "truth" was significantly premature. Despite my years of examples, evidence, and clear motivations, I believed "Maybe this Seth Williams guy is on the up and up. He's certainly taken a lot of democrats to pay the wages of sin. I think I kinda like this cat." Au contraire mon frère. This rat is just as dirty as all his evil brethren demons.

When a democrat goes to prison, a kitten is born.

Williams is just the latest in a long run of Philadelphia politicians to be convicted of corruption. Just in the past 10 years, they have included former U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah, a Democrat found guilty in 2016 in a racketeering scheme; the former speaker and four other members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives; two members of the Pennsylvania Senate; and a Philadelphia city councilman.

The sentencing came just a year after former Attorney General Kathleen Kane, the first woman and first Democrat elected as the state's top prosecutor, was sentenced to 10 to 23 months in prison. She was convicted of two felony counts of perjury and seven misdemeanor charges for unlawfully leaking grand jury materials in a political payback scheme and lying about it under oath.

Let me guess, most of them, if not all are democrats.

If Jeff Sessions was not sitting on his duff, there would be a new litter of kittens in DC.

All.

Although Bob Mellow and John Perzel were nominally RINOs.

Looking for a pol that isn't corrupt in Philadelphia, Camden or Chester is simply impossible and the “Republican” parties in those cities are just the democrat farm team.

Yes, he was guilty, but Rufus Seth Williams (no one ever mentions that his real name is RUFUS) did one great thing: He put the abortionist, the murderer, Kermit Gosnell, in prison! For that - if I were a Republican governor of Pennsylvania - I would be willing to commute his sentence if that is allowed under Pennsylvania law. Why? Because he had to go against the Philadelphia Democratic machine to secure Gosnell’s conviction. That took real guts.

The guy also was instrumental in getting Kathleen Kane into the slam.
As disappointed as I am in this guy, I wouldn’t be totally against commuting his sentence (democrat apparatchik Tom Wolf would never do this).
Was he corrupt? Yeah. But TIP (This Is Philadelphia). Relatively speaking, he’s the tallest midget in the circus.
He did what all democrats do, he just blew the whistle on his fellow scumbags, and you never turn over on the democrat crime family.
