A Spanish prosecutor has asked a judge to issue a European Arrest Warrant for the ousted Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont.
This is after he and four of his closest allies failed to comply with a summons to appear in court in Madrid today.
They were of course in Brussels being photographed drinking coffee in a bar but some of the Catalan politicians did turn up and appeared before Judge Carmen Limella and eight of them have been remanded in jail. A ninth will be set free if pays a bond of 50-thousand Euros.
The hearings have been adjourned and on the 9th of November is the time in which they've got to prepare their defense. Now the Spanish authorities are not mucking about and there are 20 Catalan figures and politicians who face charges of rebellion, sedition and misuse of public funds....
rebellion alone carries a maximum jail term of 30 years.
Now if this arrest warrant gets issued and it seems its just procedural now given that the prosecutor has asked for it and given that eight people are in prison, its virtually impossible to see how a snap election can take place on the 21st of December.......
Where are the voices I've heard for 18 years as a member of the European Parliament where they scream "human rights" every time a Central or Eastern European government does something they don't like......

Farage also hits at the EU (EUSSR) hypocrisy in supporting Spain's draconian measures against its own people while condemning Eastern European countries trying to use tough measures to protect their borders, among other things.
If Catalonia wanted to be left alone to do what they want, all they had to do was declare islam the official state religion.
Support and help from the EU would have been a deluge and Spain would dare not even say a bad word against it.
