Full title: 'Not his style – never has been': Trump shakes Japanese emperor's hand but doesn't repeat groveler-in-chief Obama's deep bow

President Donald Trump met with Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko on Monday, sharing a brief handshake eight years after his predecessor became a global laughingstock by bowing deeply before the monarch.

Visiting with the emperor and empress is routine for heads of state visiting Tokyo, and Trump did his part a few hours before a joint press conference with Prime Minster Shinzo Abe, who wields more power than the aging figurehead.

Trump nodded his head slightly, but did not bend at the waist.

An administration official traveling with Trump on his Far East tour told DailyMail.com that bowing is 'not his style – never has been.'

That’s a lovely suit Empress Michiko is wearing.

Donald Trump’s predecessor wasn’t much of a predecessor, was he? Except,he was a global joke & remains so today in the minds of most,I think.

Melania nodded her head to acknowledge their bow and then extended her hand for a shake. Always gracious

MacArthur handled the Japanese brilliantly.

O’s bow garnered instant disrespect from Japan. Weakness and the willingness to give in to any pressure was O’s MO. Trump will and has renewed the respect that he and the US deserves. Because as another Freeper already pointed it...we’ve already kicked their ass once.

Per the article, this was not the first “bowing scandal” for DJT as POTUS.

GEEEEEEZ Fake News.

MacArthur handled the Japanese brilliantly.

He certainly did. A better situation for post-war Japan is impossible to imagine. The perfect man for the job and he performed it to perfection.

I was in Japan for Uncle Sam when Akihito and Michiko got married. It was a VERY big deal, because she was a “commoner”, not of noble or royal blood. I got no photos of THEIR ceremony, but did of other Japanese weddings. A very big and colorful deal. The groom in a tux with swallowtail coat, and the bride in traditional kimono with all the trimmings. I loved Japan and the people....AFTER MacArthur made them straighten them up and fly right!

Obama might as well have gotten down to lick the emperor’s shoes. He was most of the way there anyway.
