At Communist Centenary, Many Americans Still Believe in Collectivism

November 7 marks a century since the founding of one of the most murderous tyrannies in human history. Russia's communist empire was an appalling failure in every way, yet we often see the hammer and sickle, the symbol of the Soviet Union, carried on college campuses and at protests around the country. Communism still holds sway among a significant part of the U.S. population.

In 1917, Russia was ruled by a powerful czar. But in the preceding decades, reformers had been chipping away the feudal system, which was all Russia had ever known. More democratic and free market ideas were taking hold. But most of the peasant masses were still impoverished, and millions of Russian men were being used as cannon fodder in World War I. The country was ripe for revolution, and one occurred in March 1917. Reformers forced the czar to cede power. Elections were planned for a democratic assembly, the Duma.

The snowflakes believe communism is “really neat” as long as you can practice it in CAPITALIST AMERICA. It sucks everywhere else.

Well it sucks unless you’re one of the elites who has a Dacha on the lake and vacation homes scattered about. As for us peons, not so much. Moronialls haven’t a clue.

We have had many decades of the highly-politicized nanny state, growing statism, and top-down socialism. Entirely funded by massive government spending and debt in our completely unbacked, printed Federal Reserve currency, which the world accepts as the main reserve currency, for now.

Therefore, many have spent their lives in this American socialism. They see it continue and many of their politicians and teachers tell them it has been good - we can easily have even more socialism. So they believe.

Because they're taught in K-12 that Communism works well and is the best system for everyone.

They're not taught the evils of Communism and if that comes up, the ready excuse is "the right people weren't in charge."

What they're not taught:

They “believe in it” because they have never lived under it. I suggest they go to Poland or Hungary and talk to some people who remember life during the communist era.

This is not surprising at all given the indoctrination in our colleges and universities — and even in K-12 public schools.

Many Americans Still Believe in Collectivism

Voluntary collectivism is not the same as forced collectivism. If my wife and I choose to voluntarily practice collectivism in our family, that is quite different from government forcing us to practice that collectivism with other individuals...as families then become irrelevant as the whole purpose of a family is collectivism.

I'm surprised that the Democrats aren't having big parades to celebrate the centennial today.

There's not a dime's worth of difference between the Democratic Party and the Communist Party of the US any more. (There used to be two bits' worth.)

Colleges are full of idiots trying to get smart. No one should look for wisdom there.

Communism is a lot older than 100.

As far as collectivism, probably 99% of Americans favor it in one form or another. I don’t.

Today is also the 25th anniversary of the death of Alexander Dubcek, the leader of Czechoslovakia during the Prague Spring of 1968 (ended by Soviet and Warsaw Pact troops). He worked for a more humane version of Communism but it isn’t clear if he ever totally gave up his belief in Communism.

Funny you should mention that. When I lived in Canada, we had some friends who had emigrated from Hungary. They, in turn, had friends who emigrated from communist Hungary, and turned around and gone back to Hungary.

They left because of the fear of losing one’s job, not finding another job, and starving to death. Compared to guaranteed employment in Hungary, the notion of being out of income was so worrisome for them, they gave up their freedom for security.

It all stems, I suppose, from how one is raised to see oneself and the world. Which makes the eternal infantilizing of our modern snowflakes bode so ill for their future.

Instead he got a dacha on a lake. Now he's trying to bite the hand that made it possible. Weird huh? 😹

Yeah, almost as if they paid him off to just go away.
I think it was planned all the way for Bernie to be a token candidate except he did better than they had planned because Hillary completely sucked as a candidate.
They had a canned ham candidate that damn near beat out the tyrant in a phony contest.

Then the planned voter fraud fell short too.
