Just saw the video. I hadn’t heard before, but the shooter was still heavily armed with weapons in his car, and was headed in the direction of another Baptist church, two miles from the church where the massacre had just occurred. So by the time he went off the road, the other church was maybe a mile away. Nobody knows if he had plans to visit that church, but if he did, so much more could’ve happened.
On the contrary, the people who write law, interpret law and make policy have heard of the latter.
Myths are more powerful than real life, because a good myth never stops inspiring real live emulators of the hero. Unlike the Lone ranger, there really was a boy named David who slayed a giant with a slingshot. How many people have emulated him. Now we have two real live Texans emulating the Lone Ranger, albeit with ordinary bullets and an a car instead of a white horse. It’s worth noting. These are extreme times. In extreme times, heroes become flesh again, or ordinary men become heroes. Myths come to life.

This man knew at that moment he realized people were dying that his life was about to change. But he didn’t hesitate before he stepped into the line of fire to either stop the threat or meet his maker.
He didn’t hesitate and his aim was true. No one knows exactly how they will respond in a situation like this. I’m glad this guy knew what he had to and did it.
It also shows what a well trained person can do who’s properly motivated.

Although in WaPo’s lies of omission, they only call the hero saving people a certified gun instructor. They did not identify that he was an NRA instructor. That would go against their policy of allowing their readers to view the NRA in any favorable light.

There would never have been any public support for destroying the mental care system without Cuckoo. It also took the attack on psychiatry by R.D. Laing to bring it about.
To the “compassionate” left it is much more humane to let them live on drug infested streets freezing in a cardboard box waiting to get beaten up or killed than in a mental health facility.
The church I attend has so many ccw members that an incident could turn out to be a hailstorm of rounds fired by the perp and members alike. Highly dangerous. Hope the leo on duty does his part first, before the members take action.

Because the liberals decided the mentally ill had Civil Rights and had the right to not have treatment or be held if they did not want to be locked up.
There were a lot of abuses going on in mental institutions, that was brought out- instead of doing something to bring about changes the whole system was dismantled.
In theory people can still be locked up against their will, but in reality it does not work out that way most of the time. Even when police want someone held for evaluation they are often released without even having an evaluation. Mental health care is nearly impossible to access, filled mostly with people who have already committed crimes. Finding mental health help for someone that has not harmed anyone is in most cases not happening.
We have to address mental illness in this country, we have to be willing and able to keep some mentally ill people off the streets. We are choosing to ignore the mentally ill, and it is not working too well for us. We will have to pay for their care, because those that might well be a threat to us are seldom functioning well enough to hold a job and have insurance to pay for their care. We have to have access to mental health care so families with concerns about a family member can have them seen by a professional.
A few years ago I tried to help a woman get mental health care, she had no job and no money. There is supposed to be mental health care available for people like that. I could not even get her an initial appointment. There just were no openings, waiting list. Since no one can force another into treatment we need a place for them to be seen when they are willing to go. Delaying care often means they change their mind and will quit seeking help. The woman told me she could not get help to begin with, I did not believe her until I tried to get her seen. It really was not possible. With all the hype we hear, there really is no help in most cases.
Something really needs to be done. I agree that those who need help can rarely find it. As a decent society we need to help those who need help, keep the truly dangerous away from the people they will harm.
I don’t think we have enough people trained to help the mentally ill.
