'Today' show actually brought on Dan Rather - Dan Rather! - to discuss made-up news stories
Washington Examiner ^ | November 7, 2017 | Becket Adams

Dan Rather, who famously lost his job after he was caught spreading a made-up story about former President George W. Bush, is making the rounds again to discuss accuracy in media and the proper role of the press in our republic.

Because this is real life and the producers of NBC's "Today" show lack any sense of self-awareness.

"[A] recent poll that said nearly half of people think the media make up stories!" co-host Savannah Guthrie said as she kicked off the morning segment.

Referring to a Politico survey released in October, she then turned to Rather and said, "The media itself is under fire. And what do you think the media needs to do better to enhance its own credibility? And what do people need to understand about the value of the press?"

[Snip]

Naturally, because this is the "Today" show, and they have no interest in doing hard news reporting, Rather managed to sneak out of the studio without anyone asking him a single question about the thing that led to his downfall. But they certainly had questions about why people should trust the press! So there’s that.

Reliving the good old days when SeeBS/NBC/ABC controlled the narrative.

Dan’s rationale was “fake but accurate.” He and his crew thought they were doing us a public service.

To have SeeBS’s Mr. `Fake but accurate’ appear in a segment on made-up news in the first place, but then to not ask him about his own disgrace from faking `news’ isn’t just astonishing ... it requires “Drunken Master”-level doublethink kung phooie.

The rest of the MSM must be in awe of NBC today.

Zakeet :" Personally, I can't think of a better expert on the subject of made-up news ..."

Dan is being re-invented as a newsworthy source.
Proving once again, the electorate prefers its news in 30 second 'sound-bites'
and has the memory retention of a gnat !

DAN RATHER - PHONY MARINE

http://militarycorruption.com/danrather2.htm

Surprise! Now Dan Rather Publishes 'Fake News' About Himself

http://mobile.wnd.com/2017/04/dan-rather-publishes-fake-news-about-himself/

Dan Rather, who famously quit his post as the anchor for “CBS Evening News” in 2004 after airing “fake news” about President George W. Bush, has been caught up in another episode.

This time it’s about his 2012 book, “Rather Outspoken: My Life in the News,” which features an image of Rather as a Marine.

Dan Rather as a "Marine" image appears several places online, credited with being provided by Dan Rather

Rather apparently supplied the image to the publisher, which shows him in Marine dress blues and the famous white saucer cap, with the caption, “As a young Marine.”

Only he wasn’t.

He washed out of boot camp while trying to become a Marine.

The story is explained in a document posted online by the blog MilitaryCorruption.com.

In the book, the blog explains, “the then 81-year-old liberal icon and disgraced former CBS anchorman didn’t say word one about the Corps in the text, but shockingly in the photos section, there was a headshot of a smiling, young Dan wearing Marine dress blues, including the famed white saucer cap, with the caption, ‘As a young Marine.’

Speaking of Gunga Dan, who can forget this classic: MY TELEPROMPTER IS DEADLY

Excerpts from the new Inspector Dan Rather Mystery by David Burge (Iowahawk to you Freepers)

Warning: Set down coffee and swallow food before continuing

It was a slow September night in Manhattan. The kind of sweaty summer night where the mean streets of Gotham run wild with the shadowy scum of the Republican National Convention. The kind of night where mysteries are born. The kind of night I live for.

My name is Rather. And I’m a dick.

I stabbed out a Lucky into my Watergate Hotel ashtray, a sentimental little souvenir I picked up after my first big scoop (Dan Rather #1 - the Case of the Phantom CREEPs), and peered through the Venetian blinds of my 53rd Street office. I polished the lens on my camera.

It had been over a year since my last big investigation, a nasty little blackmail plot against an eccentric Baghdad Hills tycoon (Dan Rather #24: The Tikrit Orchid), and rent was overdue. I needed a scoop, and I needed one fast. My rabbit foot was working, because a scoop soon came waltzing through the door. In silk stockings.

“Gotta light, handsome?” asked the 32-30-41 silhoutte leaning on the frame.

Mapes. I hadn’t seen her since Dan Rather #27 - The Secret of Abu Ghraib. She was a dangerous dame with dangerous gams – and a nose for Republican plots.

“Hello, Mary,” I sneered, pushing back the rim of my fedora with a Sony microphone.

“’Smatter, Daniel? I thought you’d happy to see me,” she purred, filing her nails.

“Happy ain’t the word, doll. You’re lucky I didn’t drop you like a bad habit after you burned me on the Lynndie England caper. You gotta case for me, or is this strictly a…. social call?”

“All of the above, Danny Boy. Got time for a little gossip?”

“Depends on the gossip-ee, I suppose.”

“Suppose I told you it concerned a little mumble-mouth guy from Texas.”

“I’m all ears.”

“Do the words ‘Texas Air National Guard’ ring a bell?”

“You know my fee, doll. Twenty-five grand a broadcast, plus expenses.”

I poured a hot cup of muddy joe into my CBS News logo cup. It was going to be a long night.

Much more HERE

Is there any hope to live with a news industry again whose self-aware view of themselves is "What, where, who, how?

It's incredible that even this delusional egomanic fancies himself an unelected (and unrespected) political and social leader, and commentator, whether we agree or not. Give us the news, uncolored with stupidity and bias, and let us decide the meaning and relative value of events.

Bottom lime, your opinion isn't worth crap, unless we, the consumer of the news deem it important enough to ask you for it, otherwise just STFU!

You need to stroke your ego? You enjoy your fantasy world? Make fantasy movies, like Al Bore and the other fat slob, "Jabba the Hutt" what'shisname...

If they would have Prosecuted Rather like the LAW prescribed, WE WOULD NOT BE HAVING THIS CONVERSATION!, Every Presstitute would be telling the Truth and would not make things up like they do. PRISON is a very good deterrent.
