LGBTQ Characters on U.S. TV at Record Highs

LOS ANGELES — The number of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer characters on U.S. television shows have reached record highs, and advocacy group GLAAD said on Thursday that their stories were more important than ever given moves in the United States to roll back LGBTQ acceptance.

In it annual report on diversity on the small screen, GLAAD found 329 regular and recurring LGBTQ characters across all broadcast, cable and streaming TV platforms, including the first asexual and non-binary characters.

GLAAD President Sarah Kate Ellis said TV was a critical place for the portrayal of LGBTQ characters and their lives.

"At a time when the Trump administration is trying to render LGBTQ people invisible, representing LGBTQ people in all of our diversity in scripted TV programs is an essential counterbalance that gives LGBTQ people stories to relate to," Ellis said in a statement.

You’d think that homosexuals and various permutations thereof were 25% of the population instead of less than 2%, from all the attention they get.

Non sequitur.

I turn off at the sight of homos and faggots immediately. I am repulsed. I am not a homophobe because the do no scare me. They sicken me.

3 things I turn the channel for now. Pushing the fag agenda; change. The gblt (gibblets) agenda; change. Pushing women as the alpha male; change. I can’t add the NFL, because living in the Philippines, my cable package doesn’t show any of the games anyway, with the exception of last years superbowl. Whats depressing is that the Philippines copies a lot of stuff out of the US, so starting to see the same BS in their shows/movies too.

True that, along with perception that the negro population is closer to 50% instead of 13% based just on any commercial or sitcom/chicflic.

Yes & often times it adds nothing, but certainly detracts from the show. There are a number of shows I do not like & stop watching when one is introduced with no apparent reason other than to promote these people as normal.

Visited my mom, whom still watches daytime soaps.

Two dudes openly making out in one of the scenes as I’m talking to her.

Awkward as all heck.

I bought a television in January of ‘90 when my wife was pregnant.
Got rid of the idiot box in March of ‘95.
The book is always better anyway.

In other news, record high numbers of TV viewers are “cutting the cord”, replacing their pre-scheduled, ad-driven, agenda-spewing content sources with on-demand ad-free personally-picked streaming media content.

Feed people garbage and they’ll find another restaurant.
