Thanks, Irish....that’s encouraging. I will let you know, but if I come across a little strange, it will likely be from LOTS of painkillers lol!

I was wondering why world leaders wore the same shirts at the APEC meetings. It seems that President Clinton started the tradition.

Good Pictures at this link. Pictures in below link also.

Awkward Apec fashion: what world leaders wore – in pictures

Quote from bottom link: "World leaders have Bill Clinton to thank for starting the annual tradition back in 1993, when he hosted the summit in Seattle and gifted world leaders in attendance with matching bomber jackets."

"The next year, the tables turned on Clinton and it was his turn to don a traditional Indonesian shirt selected by the summit's subsequent host country."

"President Barack Obama made no secret of the fact that he wasn't such a fan of the tradition with his decision to nix it when it was his turn to host the APEC summit on his home turf of Hawaii in 2011, after previously threatening in jest that he would make world leaders wear aloha shirts or grass skirts."

President Trump was styling and profiling in matching blue shirt at APEC

"Vietnam and Philippines are summits and spouses are not invited."

That's what I was thinking also, because I YouTubed when Obama went to the APEC and Michelle wasn't with him nor did I see other wives. But then I YouTubed Bush and Laura was with him and so were other spouses.

I wonder if they changed it after that.

Melania looks warm and friendly but selective - like she is a type of person that treats everyone equally but is very choosey in who she is friends with.

Hope looks cold and haughty but negotiable.

JMO and you all already know I don’t like Hope.

Yes......sometime pain killers are a good thing. I am sure you will do fine. Make sure that when you get up from sitting down you have something to hold on to. The toilet is a VERY good example.. A chair with arms is another example.

;)

Perhaps the simpler shirts that the heads of state wore this year were a sign of respect. No one needs to have worn some of them from past years.

The natural beauty of Melania outshines the plastered on makeup of Hicks.

*Subject:* *WH Travel Pool Report #1*

Manila, Nov. 13, 2017
Good morning from sunny tropical Manila, where President Trump will attend the ASEAN summit and hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of Australia, the Philippines, and India.
The motorcade arrived at the Cultural Center of the Philippines at 930, close to an hour behind schedule. As we pulled in we passed a group of festively-clad native dancers in a field next to the building.
President Trump was scheduled to be greeted by President Rodrigo Duterte (photo op covered by a separate preset pool).
Your traveling pool is headed to cover the opening ceremony of the 31st ASEAN summit.

*Subject:**WH Travel Pool Report #2*

The opening ceremony is being held in a cavernous auditorium with a stage flanked by the flags of the ASEAN member countries.
At 943, as an orchestra played a stately processional, the leaders filed into the auditorium and took white leather seats facing the stage.
Trump greeted PM Malcom Turnbull and PM Justin Trudeau, among others.
Then the leaders mounted the state for a group photo.
POTUS, in a red tie, stood next to Duterte, in traditional white Philippine shirt.

Give is your brightest smile, the MC intoned as cameras flashed. Then he instructed them to give each other the customary ASEAN handshake, right hand over left hand.
After a false start, Trump executed the handshake correctly and smiled much more enthusiastically than he had for the photo.
The leaders sat down and listened to the playing of various ASEAN songs, which celebrated the soaring spirit of this group and had the vague echo of a Disney musical.
Rodrigo Duterte then took the lectern to martial music.
He opened by noting the Philippines success is defeating ISIS-linked extremists and thanked foreign partners for their help.
I apologize for setting the tone of statement in such a manner, he said, but added these threats know no boundaries.
The menace of the illegal drug trade continues to threaten the fabric of our societies, Duterte said, making no mention of his controversial anti-drug campaign.
He announced that ASEAN leaders had reached an agreement on the rights of migrant workers.
Then he declared the summit formally open.

After Duterte took his seat again, Trump leaned over and patted him lightly on the knee.

At that point, young dancers took the stage, performing a traditional dance under the slogan connected. Lots of whooping, percussion, and a Pacific Island theme (think, the movie Moana.)
Next came the tale of Rama Hari, with dancers from the Philippine ballet. Rama and Siri each sing of their frustrated love. The kingdom then celebrates Ramas victory over evil forces (lots of running around with large orange flags).
Next came a tribute to youth culture with dancers doing a kind of slow-motion hip hop.
As the thumping beat went on, pool returned to the motorcade for the ride back to the Sofitel and wthe first of Trumps bilateral meetings, with Malcom Turnbull of Australia.

Pool, having reviewed photographs, clarifies that Trumps facial expression during the handshake was more of an exaggerated grimace than a smile.
Hard to tell from the balcony.

Later in the afternoon, the President will participate in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India followed by an embassy meet and greet.
In the evening, the President will have dinner with Prime Minister Turnbull of Australia.
