DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) Long-haul carrier Emirates purchased 40 American-made Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners on Sunday at the start of the biennial Dubai Air Show, a $15.1 billion deal certain to please U.S. President Donald Trump who has touted the plane's sales as a job creator in America.
The deal appeared to surprise Boeing's archrival Airbus, whose staff had attended a long-delayed news conference and left the room just moments before the announcement.
Airbus has pinned hopes of continuing production of its double-decker jumbo jet on Emirates, the world's largest operator of the aircraft which took delivery of its 100th A380 earlier this month. Reports circulated before the air show that a major A380 sale would be coming.
But instead, Emirates CEO and Chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum explained how the airline considered the Airbus A350 and decided to pick the Boeing 787-10.....

Awesome!!!
Boeing should collect the cash before the Islamic world begins its inevitable implosion.
If it ain’t Boeing I ain’t going! MAGA!!!
Having flown in the Emirates A-380 several times it’s a really nice plane and I like it a lot. Quiet and smooth.
I haven’t flown in the 787, only the 777 and I like that too, though it is far louder than the A-380.
The 787...and.perhaps,the A350...are the future of commercial aviation.I've seen reports saying that both Boeing and Airbus will soon produce aircraft that can do Sydney to London non-stop.I've done 16 hour flights before (15:55 to be exact) but *that* sounds ridiculous.
Dubai is fairly insulated from the monkeyshines of angry Mullahs and their imbecile followers. They have no patience for their nonsense. And with ISIS on the defensive and now Saudi Arabia implementing reforms, the biggest story nobody is talking about is that things are actually improving in the Middle East.
I wonder if Airbus is still using that insane joystick flight control system.

I agree.I intentionally booked the A380 once because my curiosity got the best of me.I've flown it a couple of other times because I had no choice. That, and having flown the A330 a couple of times,is the extent of my Airbus experience.
An example of my attitude...I refuse to fly Jet Blue, despite its good reputation, because all they fly is Airbus.
Would not recommend signing any long term leases in Dubai or anywhere in the Middle East.
Boeing was a major driving force in the Iranian deal.
Emirates learned the hard way that the A380 is a huge waste of ramp space (footprint vs. # of passengers is not optimized, far from it and the hassle of constantly having to redirect ground traffic around it). Also, most airports are not willing to sink millions and millions of dollars into redesign just to accommodate it.
Like Boeing or not, they were brilliant in how they announced that they were jumping into the super-jumbo market when they were actually working on the better-optimized 787. Airbus went all-in with their big pig that nobody wanted. Despite an adoring media and millions of Europeans and American libs singing the A380’s praises, it’s a loss. Airbus has admitted that they’ll never recoup the $25 billion sunk into development of the jet. The claim of the A380 being the replacement for 747 gets more ludicrous by the day.
The 14-hour flight I did from LAX to Taipei was an a$$-breaker. 16 hours? No thanks.

This is a huge win for the U.S.
Yesterday everyone was talking like it was a done deal for Airbus.
We've done a couple of 14 hour flights...East Coast to Dubai. The 16 hour flight was JFK to Hong Kong.We had bulkhead seats so it could have been worse...much worse.
Just did LA...Amsterdam...Arusha, Tanzania...and back. 11 hours, then 11 hours (flying time). All I have to say is thank God for business class.
Yup,I've done Boston,Amsterdam,Kilimanjaro on KLM.Were you headed to Serengeti/Ngorongoro/Lake Manyara?
Oh,and BTW...Business Class? What, are you one of those rich Republicans? ;-)
Talk to Airline Pilots and google the articles how Dubai/Quatar are trying to destroy our majors and are annexing any airline flying to Israel and nudging them out, Kass Sunstein Style. Not to mention they are trying to control the Canal in South America.
It is a big deal as to what they are up to and no one knows about it...
Did “all of the above”...just the two of us for a couple weeks, our guide/driver and the Toyota Landcruiser. Not “rich”...just worked smart and made good decisions. You want to see animals in the wild...go Tanzania.
