The Christmas market selling Santa chocolates, Advent wreaths and spiced wine is in full swing. In a German town with an unrivalled record of welcoming migrants and making them feel at home, excited children wave from carousel rides as shoppers chattering in German and Arabic mingle. On the face of it, it's a relaxed scene of which Angela Merkel, the German leader, would surely approve.

This town’s decision to refuse any more migrants is a slap in the face for Mrs Merkel, who relentlessly lectured her nation that ‘We can do it’ when she unilaterally welcomed 1.5 million migrants, many of them Muslim, from the war-shattered Middle East and impoverished African states in 2015.

I do not doubt that among the immigrants are those who really do want to work and assimilate. It’s hard to do when the local towns are overwhelmed with welfare costs and no jobs for these folks. Then, too, there is the legitimate fear of terrorism and the growth of Islam in a Christian country.
It is hard to see how the western world will ever recover from these wimpy politicians who made such poor decisions.
This is sheer insanity, or more likely, deliberate. Having little knowledge of German politics, it just seems to me that a lot of German politicians including Merkel have sizeable Swiss bank accounts. What else can account for a vast invasion from the kingdoms of baked clay.
I’m still amazed that German citizens haven’t hung Merkel in the Town Square...but, Americans never rose up against 0bama and his illegal immigration policies, either.

I think most politicians are just overeducated idiots who are completely isolated from average people. Educated by social “professors” who are equal idiots.
They honestly believe importing millions of the most illiterate poor and giving them free stuff will improve their own country through “Diversity”. While rejecting people like South African farmers as “too rich and white”.
I’ve met many such overeducated rich people in NYC and various campuses worldwide. They really are “true believers”
