NEW YORK (AP) - ABC News on Saturday suspended investigative reporter Brian Ross for four weeks without pay for his erroneous report on Michael Flynn, which it called a "serious error."
Ross, citing an unnamed confidant of Flynn, the former national security adviser, had reported Friday that then-candidate Donald Trump had directed Flynn to make contact with the Russians. That would have been an explosive development in the ongoing investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to interfere in the election. But hours later, Ross clarified his report on the evening news, saying that his source now said Trump had done so not as a candidate, but as president-elect. At that point, he said, Trump had asked Flynn to contact the Russians about issues including working together to fight ISIS.

A “serious error” is that ABC news exists.
Lying is what they do.
No collusion was ever found. What Flynn was doing with contacts in other countries is legal. Flynn lied about a phone call on purpose. Now he gets to go under oath and tell everyone and everything regarding all the actual crimes he knows about, that were committed by other people. Win.
But the lie is out there, and convincing millions of people. You can be sure the dems will make full use of the deception.
This is just one more example of the media reporting false information from an anonymous source.
It happens almost every day.
Why did they single out this one reporter?
Fake news eventually has consequences....
I wonder who, up above him, opted to let him make the statement w/o insuring the facts were checked....
“A serious error” = “getting caught”
This reminds me of Dan Rather’s reporting of the falsified National Guard letter on President George W. Bush. It was an obvious forgery and even a regular guy off the street should have known. For example, it purported to have been typed on a typewriter, which would have been the only option at the time, but it used Microsoft Word half-size superscripts which a typewriter couldn’t have done. Rather was old enough to have used a typewriter and should have spotted at least that. The problem is, he wanted so badly to believe the forgery that he allowed himself to be convinced it was true. Or, at least true enough to fool everybody else.
This appears to be the same thing; wishful thinking rather than reporting. Brian Ross so badly wanted to be the one to take down President Trump he probably heard what he wanted to hear, rather than what was actually said.
I had a boss once who absolutely hated me. He asked me to attend a meeting with the NSA. When I asked him why he said, “Because, I am afraid I may hear what I want to hear and you won’t.” He was suffering from some early onset metal illness, but he recognized it was a problem. At least then, he did, and the meeting was crucial to our company. I was impressed. (Incidentally, he heard what I heard, which was a firm, unequivocal no on what he wanted.)
Fake news has NOT had consequences for Brian Ross; he is a serial liar and yet is still working at ABC “news”. Slandered the Tea party by reporting that the movie killer in Colorado was a member, based on someone else’s name. Falsely reported in the runup to the disastrous invasion of Iraq that they had planted anthrax in the US. Falsely accused Howard Dean of ignoring reports of abuse by a state trooper on his staff. His reward? He has received numerous “journalistic” awards and other phony recognitions from his cohorts in the “press”.
“serious error.” = “Fake News”
I recall the main issue with the faxes was that proportional type was not used on typewriters they were all fixed type, like Courier font.
So, someone stupidly used Word to create the fake faxes.
Those who lost money when ABC caused the market to crash on Friday should sue ABC. Losing a few million dollars may make them less eager to rush Fake News online.
“...Those who lost money when ABC caused the market to crash on Friday should sue ABC. Losing a few million dollars may make them less eager to rush Fake News online....”
I agree. I understand the need for “freedom of the press” and “freedom of speech” etc. but this event is equivalent to falsely crying “fire!” in a crowded theatre. At the very least, there should be a SEC investigation to see who and what “executives” shorted the market just prior to the fake news. A class action lawsuit on behalf of the millions that lost billions should be in order as well. Ross should be sued personally and ABC should be sued corporately. These lying POSs need to be held accountable for that crap.
Capping off a disastrously funny week for the fake news industrial complex.
The fact IS that this was a bold-faced LIE and it was only due to the legal protection offered by making these statements on the Senate floor that kept Sen.Reid from legal responsibility. Nonetheless, this bold statement was widely spread and cannot be discounted from having cost Romney some votes. Yet, in 2016, after retiring from the US Senate, Harry Reid was PROUD of his LIE, unapologetically saying in an interview; "Romney didn't win, did he?"
Brian Ross, Brian Williams, Harry Reid and Dan Rather have all partaken of lying to their listeners, knowing that in doing so they further their LEFTist causes, "Fake but accurate" appearing to be their guiding mantras!
Lyin’ Brian caused a loss in the stockmarket with his ABC NeverTrump propaganda. Lyin’ Brian should be cleaning toilets in the ABC executive restrooms.
Wonder why ABC evening “news” didn’t mention the suspension?
Wow, suspended. Are major outlets starting to fear consequences for their deliberate “misstatements”?
So the Fake News Media got caught with their hands in the cookie jar.
