There are places in the world where prisioners are not fed. It is up to the family to bring food for them. Now go cry me a frikkin river about your face-to-face visitation. Most likely this has interfered with somebody’s drug smuggling and they are upset.

Prisoners in this country should be presented a hefty bill for lodging, security, clothing and food upon their release. This bill should not be able to be discharged through bankruptcy. If they don’t make payments on schedule, they should be imprisoned in debtors prison until it is paid in full, to include fresh debt they accrue while in debtors prison.
If prisoners die while incarcerated, their heirs should be burdened with the debt owed to the state.

And much of that is taken by prison gangs, leaving the weak to starve or die of infections caused by beating ... Seven years in some countries is a death sentence.
Others hang a calender showing the remaining time outside of the cell where the prisoner can see it, each day is removed as it comes, except the last one which can remain up for years or for the life of the prisoner, depending on the whims of the guards.

I’ve been a long advocate of feeding prisoners Dog Kibble.
If it’s good enough for the dog, then it’s good enough for prisoners. If they wanted something tasty, then they should have considered not doing the crime.
