Visa overstays are a BIG problem. I think Kabar has actual numbers on them, but last I saw they were like 40% of ALL illegals.
Air travel is pretty cheap nowadays. Even relatively poor people can get enough to find an economy seat to the USA or Europe. They get a tourist visa, and, Viola! lose themselves in the cities’ human jungle, and never go back home.

It's not quite that easy. In order to get a visa, people need to have identification in the issuing country. This means they have names, addresses, relatives, etc. This makes them much easier to track down here. Once the flood of illegal border crossing slows to a trickle, and the visa overstays are attacked with vigor, that too will slow.
Exactly great post one can only image how obama prosecuted visa overstays, probably one a month....and that’s where they are all from,his administration.
Those are the estimates, AB. They overstay all kinds of viss, including student visas. We have over 900,000 foreign students attending our colleges at any one time. They leave the schools once they get here and disappear. The universities refuse to cooperate with ICE and don't report who no longer attends the school. Many colleges depend on foreign students to stay in existence. It is a big racket.

Physical barriers are just force multipliers reducing the need for personnel. They work and we have plenty of examples showing they do.
