I feel for Jonah Goldberg and the rest of the #NeverTrumpers at Conservatism Inc. The awful truth is that their Resistance to the leftward ratchet has failed, and the world has moved on.
So last week Jonah’s G-File is “Against One-Thingism,” complaining that we are becoming like our lefty friends for whom politics is everything, what with Republican and Trump support for Roy Moore, candidate for United States Senator in Alabama and all.
Okay, Jonah, so what is Baldrick’s cunning plan for dishing the left?
Let’s do the Eisenhower thing and make the problem bigger. What do you do when you are faced with a millennarian movement for which politics and power and cultural hegemony is indeed the holy One Thing.
The truth is that you have to come pretty close to your own One Thing. Otherwise you just go under the knout and bend the knee to the One Thingers and their political and cultural commissars, and your children go with the New World Order, as taught by regime thugs in the schools and in entertainment.
That is why the Reformation inspired a Counterreformation, the French Revolution inspired various anti-French Coalitions, the Bolshevik Revolution inspired a movement of anti-Communism, and it wasn’t pretty.

The never-Trumpists are ideological purists who cannot see that open borders enrich the rich at the expense of American workers. I don’t think that being a nationalist is a betrayal of my conservative principles. Can open borders conservatives say the same? That their open borders stance that promotes windfall profits for it’s proponents at the expense of American jobs and taxes to support open borders?

Instead they tend to be sniveling sellouts, who had no problem backing McCain for president.
Who managed to claim with a straight face that Romney has a conservative bone in his body. (I’m from MA, I know better.)
Jay Nordlinger and Mona Charen waxed poetic about their very good friend David Frum in their podcast this week. Goldberg is good pals with the slimeball Ben Sasse.
They are a bunch of DC swamp sellouts. One of the great things that Trump’s campaign did was to out them all.
NFL football became politics (the Left's choice). At that point, we can endorse treason or abandon the NFL. Many Americans chose patriotism.
Target bathrooms became politics (the Left's choice). At that point, we can expose innocent children to predators or abandon the brick and mortar stores. Many Americans chose to shop elsewhere.
Even the words "male" and "female" became politics (the Left's choice). At that point, we can corrupt our language too by pretending that boy/girl is personal choice or offend delicate snowflakes by telling the truth. Many Americans chose honesty.
Pretty much everything is now politics to America's enemies on the Left. Many real Americans have chosen to fight rather than surrender to their Big Lie.
Excellent piece. Jonah has yet to mature into a man who truly understands the stakes involved in his choices.
NeverTrumpers are simply cowards who refuse to get their hands dirty. They would rather contemplate navel lint than actually do anything and risk their elite positions.
Jonah and Steve Hayes don’t get the fact they are losers. They missed the boat.

Goldberg is a classic case of hating Trump more than he loves his country. His entire focus is on Trump, at the expense of all other things conservative. He deserves our pity, but not our interest. When Goldberg goes on, TV goes off, nor do I bother to read anything with a Goldberg byline.
The #nevertrumpers are liberals who play conservatives on TV.
The left has raised the stakes with their new, more aggressive polices that have upset a kind of informal truce we have had in America since probably the 70’s. We have to respond. This sudden lurch left in Obama’s second term has put conservatives on the ropes. If we don’t make a stand now, it may be too late. Which is precisely why National Review doesn’t want us to make a stand.
