Restaurant’s ‘racist’ sign with man in blackface sparks outrage
NY Post ^ | Dec 18, 2017 | Alexandra Deabler

A restaurant in Texas is defending itself against racism allegations after hanging a sign that uses a derogatory term for African Americans and depicts a blackface caricature.

The sign, which features cartoonish blackface with “Coon Chicken Inn” printed on the grinning teeth, has made the rounds on social media with many calling it “racist” and “infuriating.”

Cook’s Garage in Lubbock, TX, claims the controversial sign is “part of history,” according to Everything Lubbock. The restaurant, which reportedly features other vintage signs as part of the aesthetic, denied any racist intent in a now-deleted Facebook post.

“Aunt Jemima, mammies, and lots of other black collectibles are highly sought after, as is Americana collectibles with white characters,” said the message, The Root reports. “The Coon Chicken Inn was an actual restaurant started in the 20’s. Again, we want to stress we do not intend to offend anyone, and are only preserving a part of history that should remind us all of the senselessness of racial prejudice.”

It may be part of history but it also probably isn't the best business decision in the age of the perpetually offended.

Then don’t go to Lubbock is what I’d recommend. It isn’t a bad decision. The restaurant has a big collection of vintage business signs.

Anyone offended not being there is just who they don’t wan there. Radicals, snowflakes, SJW and BLM types arent exactly sought after customers.

Next case!

” but it also probably isn’t the best business decision in the age of the perpetually offended. “

Giving in isn’t the way to stop this perpetually offended BS. The proper thing is to tell them adios.

Depending on the restaurant and clientele, offending the perpetually offended might be a good business decision.

“It may be part of history but it also probably isn’t the best business decision in the age of the perpetually offended.”

Some town in the panhandle of Texas, a few decades ago, a black man opened a restaurant and wanted to call it “The Big N****r.” (And today we can’t even spell it out.)

They made him change it.

>> The restaurant has a big collection of vintage business signs

Not unlike ISIS/Islam, the deranged Left in America has no tolerance for the country’s eclectic history.

So then why did the owner of the restaurant post such a groveling apology? Why didn't he just say what you did and leave it at that?

The biggest collectors of that vintage “racist” stuff are black people.

Restairant opened in April 2017.

Yelp reviewers Andrea, Jennifer, & Jessica took pics of the sign in the last few days...

Reviewer Jenny took a pic of it with a couple others 4 months ago

Might limit the clientele...

...to the sane.

From my about page:

” I will know the Republic is safe when:

“1. I can open an ethnic restaurant under the name of that ethnicity’s “worst” cognomen (such as, but not limited to “Hiram the Honky’s Hamburger Heaven”); costume the staff in ridiculous stereotypes; and deny service to any person, group, or category of people just because I want to; all without fear of legal liability.”

Items 2-4 not relevant.

Let the free market decide. I don't see a problem.

The perpetually outraged muslims liberals can pound sand. It's getting hard to tell the difference between liberals and muslims, so much outrage, so little time.

Klan hoods and robes are part of our history too. Maybe they can dress their serving staff accordingly?

The sign as the statues are part of an ugly past... don’t eat there if offended, but it is some very tasty chicken.
