The father of Justine Damond said family members have concerns about the investigation into her death after Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman was captured on video last week criticizing investigators in the case.
Freeman said he didn't have enough evidence to charge Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor because investigators "haven't done their job." Damond was shot in July when she approached Noor's squad car after calling 911 to report a possible sexual assault.
John Ruszczyk said investigators from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension promised the family a thorough investigation after Damond was killed last summer.
"We are apprehensive that perhaps the BCA has not fulfilled its promise," Ruszcyk said in a statement delivered to media members in Australia Wednesday night (Thursday morning local time).
"At the least, Mr. Freeman comments cast doubt on the description of how Justine's death occurred as it was initially put out by the BCA and the attorney for the officer driving the squad car."
Ruszczyk said the family expects the investigation to continue in a thorough manner.
"We continue to implore Mr. Freeman and the prosecutor's office to continue to pursue a rigorous investigation and examination of evidence in the events leading to Justine's death.
"We expect them to fill in any gaps in the BCA's work honestly and fairly, but completely."
Freeman issued a video apology to the BCA Monday. His initial comments came at a holiday reception last week when he was asked why he hasn't announced charges. The activist group Twin Cities Coalition for Justice 4 Jamar posted the video on social media.
"Fair question," he replies on the recording. "I gotta have the evidence. And I don't have it yet. And let me just say, it's not my fault. So if it isn't my fault, who didn't do their jobs? It's called investigators, and they don't work for me. And they haven't done their job."
Hopefully, this gets Marx Dayton to hold the investigator's feet to the fire.
Probably not. He must protect the Somalis in Minnesota.
I suspect it has more to do with protecing a cop than a Somali.

The authorities are more concerned about covering for their incompetent Somali cop than they are in justice for this young lady.
Maybe yes, maybe no. It’s possible, we will never know for sure. If the cop was a WASP, would they protect him the same way they do a Somali Muslim?

As much as I dislike Freeman, I believe him and he is being cowed by Marx Dayton.
That tragically unfortunate and decent young woman totally died in vain.
Mohamed Noor is a disgusting Muslim and they need not obey any laws.
