Police officer killed, 3 others wounded by Iranian protester: Reuters

A protester shot and killed a police officer on Monday during the fifth day of demonstrations in Iran, Reuters reported, citing Iranian state television.

The policeman is the first member of law enforcement to be killed during the protests. Roughly a dozen people were killed on Sunday as civilians continued to protest alleged government corruption and economic conditions.

One officer was killed and three other officers were wounded after a demonstrator opened fire with a hunting rifle in the city of Najafabad, Reuters reported, citing a police spokesman on state TV.

Protesters have taken to the streets for each of the past five days. Some in the country's capital reportedly chanted "death to Rouhani," referring to Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, and "death to the dictator," referring apparently to Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

President Trump has sent out several tweets in support of the Iranian protests since they began. On Monday, he said Iran is "failing on every level," adding that it is “time for change."

U.S. lawmakers have generally approved of Trump's comments.

Israeli and German officials on Monday also voiced support for the protesters' right to assemble.

The gestapo guns and ammo should have been given to the freedom fighters.

“. . . alleged” government corruption? I think it can be stated as a plain fact that there is corruption in every government, and certainly in current the Iranian government.

Basij - the police wing of the Revolutionary Guards. The Basij are firing back at armed protestors. Their cops are not like our cops. More will die as the protests continue - there is not much volume protesting but there does seem to be some organization. Both volume and deaths could escalate during the coming national strike.

I rather doubt this. In protests that get out of control the good guys have a tendency to beat the bad guys to death with fists and clubs and bricks and stones. This is because the with rare exceptions the good guys do not have the guns.

I suspect the bad guys killed one of their own to justify extreme violence in mass against the good guys. It is for "the common good you know!"

Point of conversation and analysis:
Iran supplied sophisticated shaped charges to those combating us in Iraq and Afghanistan. These weapons killed many United States Soldiers. This is in reality an unofficial act of war.

In response I would suggest the same thing, but it should be a massive flood of ammunition for the MP4, the AK-47 and the weapons that fire such ammunition. Millions and Millions into the hands of freedom loving Iranians. This would work.

I lived in Iran in the 60s as a young lad of 13. It was more European than Middle East. Life was pretty damn good. The main political battlefield and social battlefield was not between Muslim and Christian. The battle was between the communists and the imperial throne of the Reza Shah. Religion was of no importance relative to politics in Iran at that time. It was tyrannical leftest communists verses the soft pro western tyranny of the Reza Shah. He was not a bad man.

The result of his overthrow was a tyrannical theocracy that is philosophically quasi Marxist but 100% dictatorial tyranny by force, violence and fear.

Hitler did that too.

Forgot to add that when the Reza Shah was overthrown it was the communists that backed Khomeini. The Shah had the loyalty of The Army and the means and ability to destroy his opposition. He did not because Jimmy Carter pulled all support for him and in effect joined the communists and the theocracy revolution of Khomeini.

The present insanity of war and strife in the middle east are a direct result of Jimmy Carter. He is a bad man!

Nice to see the protestors shooting back now—12 protestors shot—one policeman (tool of despotism) shot. This is how revolutions start (see Boston Massacre in American Revolution). Next will come that Lexington Moment and the shot heard round the world. God be with these Freedom Fighters! Bless them as they topple the cabal of Mullah-Tyrants from the Islamic Puritanism and the iron fist of the “Revolutionary Guard” goon squads.
