It was 25 years ago today -- January 3, 1993 -- that Star Trek: Deep Space Nine premiered. The show, created by Rick Berman and the late Michael Piller, thoroughly polarized the fan base. It was so dark and so different in every way from either The Original Series or Star Trek: The Next Generation that many fans tuned in or tuned out, and loved it or loathed it… immediately.

My favorite of the Star Trek series! I miss Garak!

Bashir: What I want to know is, out of all the stories you told me which ones were true and which ones weren't?

Garak: My dear doctor...they're all true.

Bashir: Even the lies?

Garak: Especially the lies.

this is the affirmative action version isn’t it?
Then there’s the feminist version with female captain

Do they have a lgbt version?

“not that there’s anything wrong with that”

As a die hard fan of the original Star Trek series, and someone who didn't particularly care for Star Trek: The New Age Ration, I very much liked Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

To me, DS9 had balls—and was less PC—much like the original series...

Quark and Garek were the reasons to watch the show.

Bashir has some stories of his own (a ‘superman’ descendant of Khan Noonian Singh; a Starfleet ‘Section 31’ operative)

As for Garak, I could see him and Londo Mollari (Babylon 5) having a grand old time together at Quark’s Bar

DS9 is the best Star Trek of them all. TOS is a distant second. The others are mostly unwatchable.

The only things I liked about DS9 were Jadzia and Kira.

Including the lesbian love scene between Jadzia Dax and Lenara Kahn, a Trill scientist? That episode was a real turn-off, literally for me to continue watching DS9. Why, oh why, do scriptwriters have to put gay scenes in every show.

DS-9 was generally pretty good, although B5 was better in terms of storyline and in general plowed the path 1st. But I did enjoy the relationship that built between Sisko and his son (a hugely needed narrative for black families).

Londo and Garak at ANY bar - now that’s an interesting scene to contemplate!

Didn’t like the first couple seasons, with the exception of Quark. Sisco was a wimp. Then they shaved his head and made him tougher, brought in Klingons and a galactic war, and it got much better.

Hey gang. What about Chase Masterson? She is one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever met and is a really nice person.

She and Max Grodenchik, Lolita Fatjo and Aron Eisenberg (a very intelligent man), were a bundle of fun to talk to at Sci Fi conventions and have photos taken with.

They never refused to sign and enjoyed talking to their fans.

I saw Avery Brooks do “Othello” and he is a masterful Shakespearean actor.

Armin Shimerman was a brilliant “Quark”, and the rest of the actors were pretty good too.

The show actually had good writing and plots, but they were different than ST and ST:TNG, which was a good thing. It took space Sci Fi into new directions.

And Terry Farrell is quite a beautiful woman too for those who remember her marriage scene to Worf.

Enjoy the series. There is something in them for everyone.
