Exclusive: Bannon apologizes (2018)
Axios ^ | Jan 7, 2018 | Mike Allen

Posted on 01/07/2018 9:02:05 AM PST by Eddie01

Battered by the backlash from Michael Wolff's book, Steve Bannon is trying to make amends with the Trump family, providing a statement to Axios that expresses "regret" to President Trump and praises his son, Donald Trump Jr.

"Donald Trump, Jr. is both a patriot and a good man. He has been relentless in his advocacy for his father and the agenda that has helped turn our country around."

"My support is also unwavering for the president and his agenda — as I have shown daily in my national radio broadcasts, on the pages of Breitbart News and in speeches and appearances from Tokyo and Hong Kong to Arizona and Alabama."

"President Trump was the only candidate that could have taken on and defeated the Clinton apparatus. I am the only person to date to conduct a global effort to preach the message of Trump and Trumpism; and remain ready to stand in the breech for this president's efforts to make America great again."

"My comments about the meeting with Russian nationals came from my life experiences as a Naval officer stationed aboard a destroyer whose main mission was to hunt Soviet submarines to my time at the Pentagon during the Reagan years when our focus was the defeat of 'the evil empire' and to making films about Reagan's war against the Soviets and Hillary Clinton's involvement in selling uranium to them."

"My comments were aimed at Paul Manafort, a seasoned campaign professional with experience and knowledge of how the Russians operate. He should have known they are duplicitous, cunning and not our friends. To reiterate, those comments were not aimed at Don Jr."

"Everything I have to say about the ridiculous nature of the Russian 'collusion' investigation I said on my 60 Minutes interview. There was no collusion and the investigation is a witch hunt."

"I regret that my delay in responding to the inaccurate reporting regarding Don Jr has diverted attention from the president's historical accomplishments in the first year of his presidency." The backstory ... In Wolff's book, Bannon is quoted as saying of Mueller's prosecutors: "They’re going to crack Don Junior like an egg on national TV.'"

Be smart: While Bannon's statement may seem like a baby step, he's as stubborn as Trump when it comes to apologizing and admitting he has made a mistake. He views any concession as a sign of humiliating weakness.

What's next: Look for Don Jr. to accept the statement graciously. But Bannon has further to go with President Trump: Axios has learned that POTUS has said that he wants surrogates who appear for him on TV to "bury Steve."

Axios' Jonathan Swan reported last night: Trump has been working the phones over the past several days, telling allies they need to choose between him and Bannon. P.S. "Fake book" ... Trump tweets as he leaves Camp David: "I’ve had to put up with the Fake News from the first day I announced that I would be running for President. Now I have to put up with a Fake Book, written by a totally discredited author."

"Ronald Reagan had the same problem and handled it well. So will I!"

In the grand tradition of attention whores whose time has come and gone, Steve Desmond is ready for his closeup, Mr. DeMille.

Aw shucks. And here he was on his way to becoming a hero to the liberal press. Now he has to go and ruin it all by apologizing. Cheesh.

Oh well, maybe he can make up for it a little by bashing the Russians. He’ll have to do a lot of Russian bashing.

“And here he was on his way to becoming a hero to the liberal press.”

Bannon found that sweet spot reserved for scoundrels, turncoats and the very dim and reckless...Now Everyone On Every Side Hates Him.

And people keep saying he’s so smart. I don’t think so.

Yeah, all the bad press stomping on Trump’s heroic year-end triumphs, Trump telling his friends that they must choose between him and Bannon (easy choice!), etc., is just a set up for.....what, exactly?

I agree.

And he has plenty of money.

We’d better just hope for his sake that his scheming didn’t veer into traitorous territory.

Curious as to how many lawyers helped him write all that?

It’s nice that he has apologized, but it doesn’t change the fact that Bannon has exposed himself as being out only for himself and being willing to attempt destruction of anyone to aggrandize himself.

Bannon picked the wrong family, and should have known better.

He can get together with Kieth Olbermann, go get a hot dog, and then slunk around New York.

“Steve [Fredo], you’re nothing to me now. You’re not a brother, you’re not a friend. I don’t want to know you or what you do. I don’t want to see you at the hotels, I don’t want you near my house. When you see our mother, I want to know a day in advance, so I won’t be there. You understand?”

Goodbye & Good Riddance...Steve Bannon. Someone who is disloyal like you is nothing but, human scum, vermin, low life, garbage & sewer material. You did the same thing the Democrats are doing, self-destruction. Maybe you can get a job with the Clintons or the Obamas cleaning toilets or taking out the garbage, which you would be right at home doing.

“Stop the silliness. There is and was no plan. Bannon screwed up, and is trying to walk it back. Trump isn’t buying.”

Trump is buying it. Not only is Trump buying it, but his entire staff has bought it as evidenced by Stephen Miller’s performance on Tapper this morning.

Wolff is now alone and since the media has been taking the side of Bannon in all of this, they are once again left holding the bag. Meanwhile, Trump once again knocked the rats rantings about Trump’s demands for immigration off the front page.

This episode reminds me of the one with Reagan and his budget chief David Stockman.

Stockman went to the newsmedia to bash Reagan’s budget proposal as “voodoo economics”. In response a livid Reagan took him back to the “woodshed” for a well deserved “beating” . Stockman ended up offering his resignation, but Reagan refused it - and they lived happily ever after.

Maybe history will repeat itself.

“Axios has learned that POTUS has said that he wants surrogates who appear for him on TV to “bury Steve.””

Sorry, Axios, won’t happen. The president spoke without having the hard copy and without waiting as Bannon did and after the next piece of bs created diversion from hillary and the corrupt demoncrats Bannon will continue even if it is from where he started.

He’ll make a film. I’ll watch it.

good. a peace making step. it’s getting clearer to me what this is all about—which is likely “much ado about nothing” important. meanwhile, the left (our true enemy) rejoices.

and once again Trump has the media running around like cats chasing the laser pointer spot!

It’s quite entertaining & refreshing!

At last a GOP’er who understands the power of PR and knows how to use it!
