Where to Move? Time to Retire and Find a New Life.
01.15.18 | chickensoup

The kids are grown and gone. I live in the Northeast. I am looking to move to a small city or town or village. I am healthy, happy and adaptable.

I would prefer a place that has a conservative base. Every location on the lists of best places to move are leftist s***holes.

I am hoping for a place with four seasons, albeit, not as severe as the northeast. Elevations are fine, beauty is important, and so is the need of good, friendly people.

Any ideas?

Between DFW and the Red River. First of all, it’s Texas -— ‘nuff said. But then there is the low cost of living, and the slower rural lifestyle. You will be shocked at the property prices, and how much house you can buy for your dollar. Find a good church -— many to choose from -— and you will have a whole new family that really will help you out in times of distress. Texas 13th District is R+33 Republican according to the Cook Partisan Voting Index. And our rural Fire Departments do catfish meals and bake sales too yummy to believe for fundraisers!!! What more could you possibly want???

No habla.

That is South Texas. Central Texas (particularly the western side) is mostly Anglo. I have lived in Texas most of my life and only know a few words of Spanish (that I picked up in trips South of the border).

The Prescott, AZ area is a conservative stronghold. The local Congressman is Paul Gosar and he is a member of the Freedom Caucus.

Area population is about 120,000 and there are four mild seasons. If you like guns, there are about 14 gun stores in the area and that is not including the three Walmarts, Dick’s Sporting Goods, two Big 5, and Sportsmans Warehouse.

Housing can go from double wides to multimillion dollar homes.

This question is precisely why God gave us Florida. In fact, conservatives have a duty to retire in Florida and hold that ground at all costs. When we lose Florida, we lose. To quote Tim Russert, “Florida, Florida, Florida”.

I have nothing left to hold me, and it occurred to me that I don’t have to be here anymore.

I also get the http://www.frugal-retirement-living.com/Frugal_Retiring_News-backissues.html
Frugal retirement living news letter

But they live on a boat and I would not be able to manage a boat by myself anymore.

So now I am looking at other options.

Try looking in NE Alabama,NW Georgia middle southern TN area. I retired here from Texas almost 3 years ago and I love it here. Moderate weather, lots of fishing and hunting areas and great people.Real estate is very affordable also.

I was going to say KY, TN, North GA, NC, SC.

In Campbellsville KY, for instance, you can buy a nice 3 br ranch on 5 acres for $230,000. Within 6 hours drive to the coast, Atlanta, St Louis, Nashville, Lexington, Indianapolis, etc.

Great outdoor activities and mild winters.

The Ozarks of Missouri. Seasons are beautiful, people are good, and land with live water can still be bought for less than 2000 an acre. The small towns are very friendly, and if you need to hire work done rates are reasonable. I am a sort that prefers what God created, so I may be a bit biased.

Come check out Central Indiana. Booming economy. Cheap housing. Low crime. Conservative base. Hell of a lot friendlier than anyplace I have been in the North East. Check out Carmel and Zionsville.

I live in NE Ohio. That’s a no go. It’s blue, and getting bluer.

Southern Ohio is nice, rural, seasons, but you’re still under the thumb of the jerks in Columbus.

My son-in-law was stationed at Ft. Campbell. The base is in TN, just over the border from KY. I think both KY and TN are fine places, I stayed in Clarksville a few times, it was nice. The beauty of that is, no state income tax in TN, and very low sales tax in KY. Living near, but not too near, an Army base generally leads to a conservative populace. Not to mention, Clarksville is close to Nashville, and not terribly far from the Smokey Mountains.

The more I type, the more I’m ready to go!
