'Total free-for-all' as Bannon clashes with Intel members

Former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon on Tuesday rocketed to the center of the public controversy surrounding the Trump campaign and Russia.

The onetime Breitbart mogul now faces multiple subpoenas — from Capitol Hill and special counsel Robert Mueller — stemming from investigations of Russia’s interference in the U.S. presidential election.

The House Intelligence Committee issued a pair of subpoenas, for both documents and testimony, when Bannon declined to answer some questions during an all-day interview on Tuesday, according to multiple sources.

Earlier in the day, The New York Times reported that Mueller last week served Bannon a separate grand jury subpoena. News of that subpoena broke just hours after Bannon walked into the Intelligence Committee’s secure spaces.

Multiple sources told The Hill that Bannon indicated to lawmakers that he would answer questions about the Trump campaign, but not about his work on the transition team or in the White House. Bannon, alongside his lawyer, said he would only answer those questions when he speaks to Mueller.

Unless punches were thrown, there was no free-for-all.

PLEASE tell me punches were thrown...

The loathsome Adam Schiff was on NPR this morning.

Parading Bannon around for a few days is the bright, shiny object for the media to glom onto while the nuclear bomb that is the DOJ IG report and related matters go unreported.

Bannon loves the attention he's getting.
I'll wager the White House gave him no orders to keep mum.

Him and his big fat mouth.

Apparently he’s really smart but sure seems like a very loose cannon.

as a member of the executive staff, wouldn’t there be an executive privilege denial available.

That was surely the legal rationale for Bannon to discuss the campaign but not the transition or his time in the White House.

Note that when someone who might say something negative about Trump testifies before Congress in closed session, its all over the press the next day; when someone like Simpson or the DOJ/FBI gang testifies, its kept secret. We need a strong fight back - where is the FBI material from the 1.9 million pages given the Committee last Friday??

My opinion is that Mueller and his cabal of legal ruffians will use Bannon like they did Manafort, and try to get the most damaging stuff against him. Stuff that the press can use to further pillage the President, and stuff they can use against Breitbart. Whatever they find—fair game.

The thing to remember is they are a bunch of democrat operatives wearing prosecutorial robes and I believe will stop at nothing short of indictment of the President.

What constraints does Mueller really have? To me, the whole Manafort investigation, the 4:00 AM raid, going after crimes that had NOTHING to do with the Trump campaign and Russia, and the indictment itself, was a statement that said “We don’t have ANY constraints!”.

Without Rosenstein pulling back on it—and he did not—the sky was/is the limit.

The only thing holding them back is the “court of public opinion” and the knowledge that President Trump fights back.

But I’m worried about Bannon because they can follow ANY and EVERY thread they want to, and Bannon is probably a whole suit of loose threads to pull on.

Sloppy Steve may be a very intelligent individual, but in matters of personality, he seems to make a lot of enemies, even among those who are supposed to be his allies. I think his whole campaign to drain the swamp during this years primaries is over.

Bannon is absolutely the ideal type of witness to a prosecutor: 1: Thinks they are smarter than everyone else; 1a: With scant evidence 2: can be induced to blather given the proper stimulus.

This is strawberries and whipped cream to a skilled litigator.

You'd better hope not. If the swamp draining over then the republic is over also.

F the GOPe. I will never vote for another RINO again. I am anti globalist all the way like 90% of the base. Bannon was a great spokesmen for putting America first. We need a new better, Bannon.

"We need a new better, Bannon."

I guess that's the point I was trying to make. I want to see the swamp drained as well, but Bannon can no longer carry that torch through this year's primaries.

"wouldn’t there be an executive privilege denial available?"

Trey Gowdy said last night that there is no Executive Privilege until there is an executive - that is, until Trump is actually president. This would mean that time during the campaign and transition are open season.

I suspect that Bannon will plead the fifth, citing the witch hunt that Mueller is on, while pointing out all the Mueller has done to Flynn and Papadopoulos.

Bannon loves the attention he's getting.

Yes sir, big time!

Saw a video of him from yesterday. Here he comes shuffling down a hall, spots the TV camera, immediately stands up straight, develops an arrogant smirk on his face and proudly struts by enjoying every second of the attention. What a POS!

The Schiffstorm is about to hit and he knows it...the democrats are going to be buried deep in DOJ/FBI corruption and 702 abuse.

Since there was no collusion, I’m not worried at all.

Bannon has nothing to tell...also, how convenient that after the Bannon-Trump spat, now all of a sudden Mueller wants to question him lol.

Mueller has nothing outside of a few loose business dealings with Flynn and Manafort. He’s trying to get somebody to rollover on Trump.

The problem is that there is nothing to say - no collusion.
