Great to see how hard Republicans are fighting for our Military and Safety at the Border. The Dems just want illegal immigrants to pour into our nation unchecked. If stalemate continues, Republicans should go to 51% (Nuclear Option) and vote on real, long term budget, no C.R.’s!

4 repubs voted with the democrats

Alleged Republicans. GET 'EM OUT!

McConnell voted on the prevailing side so he can bring it back for reconsideration.

McCain is home dying.

He won’t be back to vote on anything.

You don’t need 60 votes to pass a budget. Trump is calling that ‘nuclear’, but it isn’t what we normally refer to as the ‘nuclear option’ of changing the senate rules to eliminate the 60 vote threshold.

I know that. But McConnell couldn't eliminate the filibuster because he couldn't get 50 votes to do it.

A budget with some modest cuts in it (the so-called Penny Plan, where one penny is cut each year from every program, thus ending base line budgeting, would be great to implement here) would get the votes of all of those R senators.

Cut defense one percent per year? Medicare one percent per year? Social Security by one percent per year? How many votes do you think you'll get for that?

McCain wouldn’t know how to tweet to save his life. He has people for that stuff.

Is it unreasonable to presume that – if/when the Dem party regains control of the Senate – the Dem maj. leader would immediately abolish the filibuster, @SenateMajLdr?

Yes, it is unreasonable to assume that.

Do you have the list? I’d like to know if any are in my State so I can vote against them.

That would require 1) a backbone, and 2) the desire to do what is best for America.

Most Republicans have neither.

Alright, I see what you mean. One penny of every dollar being a 1% cut on every program. But you could exempt entitlements (deal with them later) and focus more on the rest of the budget. The best part of this plan is that it eliminates the baseline budgeting that is doubling the government’s size every decade.

The downside is that with a 51% Senatorial majority is the
times when we might have a Dem President and Dem controlled Congress. Every piece of previous republican fashioned legislation would be repealed, every dem legislation would be passed regardless of expense and we would be bankrupt within a 2 year period. Illegals would be provided an immediate path to citizenship and voting Dem and there would be zero border enforcement.

McCain: "To the last, I will grapple with thee... from Hell's heart, I stab at thee! For hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee!"

PERFECT quote for Juan McStain!

I agree. Fund the government and the wall and go back to 60.

Flake, Paul, Lee, Graham

Actually, at the very end McConnell voted against it too. In order to bring it up again, he had to have voted on the side that had won. He wanted to bring it up for another vote, so he voted for political/rules reasons.

"Yes, but four or five Dems voted with the Repubs."

They were given permission to vote for cloture, knowing their votes meant nothing. If their votes would have resulted in cloture, they would have voted NO, as directed by Schumer.

With Graham and McCain voting you will never get 51 votes. Until folks wake up and give the Republicans a significant majority in the Senate, the rules won’t be changed.
