Too bad . You have to go back. If they have been doing it fir years what is the problem?
Protect the country from the pests California farmers infect us with.
That’s the excuse just as the excuse of the airlines (dating back 30 years) is to ask for ID for “safety”. Didn’t prevent the 9-11 attacks but it did keep travelers from profiting by selling their return trip tickets when round trips were cheaper than one-way tickets.
It’s protectionism. No other states do this. I’d need to be shown some independent study that all of the other states have such dire problems from an orange being brought across state lines.
As long as this is all they catch, there will be little fuss. A bigger question is what will be done for an actual American in inconvenient circumstances.
Remember, civil asset forfeiture began with “good” intentions of seizing assets from suspected criminals so they would not use those assets for legal defense.
All I can say here is that I hope that ICE had probable cause to demand identification for each individual. Sure, LEOs can ask for ID, but they cannot hold someone without probable cause. If someone refuses to hand over their ID travelling on a bus, train, as a passenger in a car or just walking within the US, that does not in itself constitute probable cause.
Most Americans want their border enforced. But they don’t like it when law enforcement exploits popular public sentiment as a pretext to strip citizens of their 4th amendment rights.
Airports are basically constitution free zones; do we really want checkpoints for those travelling as passengers within the country as well? Because, we all know that 0bama was doing this against regular citizens just a few years ago, and Hitlery would certainly have promoted checkpoints as a means of hassling the “deplorables”.
This happens all over the world usually in a much more traumatic manner. Only in the USA do we love illegals.
No suspicion if crime, no requirement to show ID, even in a stop and ID state like FL. That said, if Immigration is combing the bus I’d be more than happy to assist by showing ID.
Sentiment understood, and God grant Donald Trump a golden tongue if that’s what is needed here to do anything about known unauthorized residents.
If sweeping entire buses becomes the trend, Donald will need to politically sell it. If I were advising outrage-mongers among Democrats, I’d say lean libertarian; have an actual cause to boost rather than a murky constellation of things to hate.
Dems will never lean libertarian. They are totalitarian. It would go against their nature.
Most people who aren’t fools would do that. Still the bristling might not be an easy thing to deflect.
Libertarians need a relatively pure and non welfare state country to safely fly their ideals, such as lax sumptuary laws. And Donald can deal, quid pro quo. Can Donald grok libertarian? Can he square that circle? I don’t deem it impossible.
If you go home, when your visa expires, you have to buy a ticket.
If you overstay, the government deports you, on the taxpayer’s dime.
Anyone see a flaw in the system here?
Who knows though. Democrats have been social vacuum fillers. If the vacuum du jour is liberty, this could transform their approach.
Though from what I have seen in my sad life, I agree, Democrats tend to stink. Even when promising perfume. The few that honestly try not to stink end up migrating to the GOP as Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump did. As the Dem party platform is unequal to the task.
I want to see what cards Donald Trump plays.

[Queen - Another One Bites the Dust - should be the ICE official theme song]
Steve walks warily down the street
With the brim pulled way down low
Ain’t no sound but the sound of his feet
Machine guns ready to go
Are you ready? Hey, are you ready for this?
Are you hanging on the edge of your seat?
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
To the sound of the beat, yeah
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust, yeah
Hey, I’m gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust
How do you think I’m going to get along
Without you, when you’re gone
You took me for everything that I had
And kicked me out on my own
Are you happy, are you satisfied?
How long can you stand the heat?
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
To the sound of the beat
Look out
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I’m gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust
Hey
Oh, take it
Bite the dust, hey
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust, ow
Another one bites the dust, hey hey
Another one bites the dust, hey-eh-eh
Ooh
There are plenty of ways you can hurt a man
And bring him to the ground
You can beat him, you can cheat him, you can treat him bad
And leave him when he’s down, yeah
But I’m ready, yes I’m ready for you
I’m standing on my own two feet
Out of the doorway the bullets rip
Repeating the sound of the beat
Oh yeah
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust(Yeah)
Hey, I’m gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust
I remember that police stopped a Greyhound bus I was riding on in the 70’s, it was somewhere in the Southwest (I was traveling to California) and escorted three Mexican-looking young men off the bus. The officers did not ask anyone else (the Anglos) for ID.
Democrats are in trouble”....legal immigrants hate illegals....
Ask a few...
If the economy is booming the GOP will win in November..
It might not be unthinkable to require temporary visitors to already have their exit tickets. With private charity agencies serving emergency needs as they may so wish, but without government guarantee.
It seems a little circular. If you want your 4th amendment rights respected prove that you are a citizen & entitled to them.
It is the LAW that all non-citizens have their visa papers with them at all times.
Way back in 1978 ,I was in the Marine Reserves, We flew from Alameda to the Orange County Airport. From there we took busses to 29 Palms, about 150 miles away. Somewhere out in the vast openness that lay between thise two points, we were stopped at a Border Patrol checkpoint. Even though we were in uniform, everyone had to show an ID.
Nothing to defend. Great job Border Patrol.
Just after Trump was in office, I passed a Border Patrol truck on the freeway. I looked at the officer and flashed a thumbs up.
He responded quickly and in kind, obviously thrilled to be able to engage in his job and mission again.
