The Churchill cafe protestors and the ignorance of a generation who've never had to want [tr]

When my grandfather set off for World War II, he was a handsome young officer in his prime, the spitting image of Gregory Peck. He returned a very different person, haunted by what he’d seen. Like countless others who fought to safeguard the freedom of this country, he never truly found peace again. He survived the bullets only to drink himself to death. Were he alive today I wonder what he would make of his legacy — today’s generation of young people for whom he sacrificed his health, happiness and, ultimately, his sanity. Part of me is very glad he’s not. Because I fear he would think his efforts wasted.

Ultimately the indictment is of the Elites who rule us and seek to subvert and undermine our culture, for their benefit.

The decay of Western societies is all by design.

Familiar with The Frankfurt School?

"Whose idea of injustice is a slow broadband speed, or an unripe avocado on their toast."

Ok, maybe it's just me but one of the takeaways from this article for me was do they really put avocados on their toast in Britian???

Ok, onto the subject at hand. I think one of the biggest characteristics of young people is their idealism. This idea that it is their time to change the world. I think this is a good trait. When I was young, that is how I felt. I confess I was more liberal minded as a young man. I wanted us to solve world hunger, etc... Since I grew up during the Cold war, like all of us that did our thinking was shaped by it. I wanted to fight communism. It's one of the reasons that drove me at 17 to sign up for the Marine Corps.

Of course as I got older and more experienced in life, I realized that my idealism was a little simple minded. Participating in humanitarian missions and getting shot at while patrolling the streets of Mogadishu during Operation Restore Hope made me realize that the solutions to a lot of these problems are not so simple. I still would like to see a lot of these things happen, but I realize that America can't solve the worlds problems.

Unfortunately for young people of today, IMO they are searching for that one cause that they can band together and "make a difference". Unfortunately, they don't have a cold war or a Vietnam war or a "fill in the blank" to make that mark. At least in Britain they don't. They just have it too good.

I think you nailed it. It’s a generation searching desperately for something to do, something to mean. So they invent “causes” and proclaim themselves noble. And the rest of us — older and wiser — are forced to listen to (and fund) their idealistic fantasies.

It says in the article that they were at this Churchill cafe protesting against fascism. That being the case, these Brits need to really go back and read a little of their history. All throughout the 30’s Churchill was one of the lone voices in Parliament speaking out against the evils of the rise of fascism and Hitler. All this while his fellow Tories thought that perhaps they could work with Hitler.

I always find it amusing also that these little lefties love to speak out about fascism (real or imagined) but never want to speak out against communism (very real in places like North Korea, Cuba and Venezuela).

To a leftwinger, anyone who disagrees with them is a fascist. The word loses all meaning coming from them.

It is happening in this country as well. The brave go to protect this country, and waaaay too many come back dead or wounded. This eventually leaves the cupcakes in positions of leadership. It is inevitable that unless the US implements the draft on ALL, we are doomed to leftist cowards running this country, at which time we are all lost until CW resets the scum to the depths.

describing anyone who supports [Churchill] as ... 'fascist scum’.

Talk about uneducated. Frightening ignorance.

look there are always 20% malcontents in a society (made up that number).

The problem is that universities and charities have found a way to reward these numskulls because with social media they have a voice

To leftists (especially young ones), any white male who stands up for Western civilization is a ‘fascist’.

"I agree. We need the draft again."

As a 22 year Marine veteran, I strongly disagree. As an infantry platoon sgt or squad leader, there is no way I would want any of these snowflakes under my command.

If I had any of these snowflakes when I was a drill instructor, I would have been kicked off the drill field.

My oldest son is a 22year Marine veteran also. He thinks like me. You “can” made warriors out of wimps. You just have to introduce them to the REAL facts of life.
He loved the service. Said one of his memorable moments was when as a Gunny, he had to kick a General out the door of the plane when he froze up in a parachute training flight. First Gulf War cost him dearly health-wise but he’d do it all over again.

"First Gulf War cost him dearly health-wise but he’d do it all over again."

I'm sorry to hear that. I was in the first Gulf also (2/5), we had to take a lot of untested and unproven pills, plus I'm sure he's told you about the oil well fires. At noon, it made it look like midnight. Was one of the eeriest sites I ever saw. I'm sure those things contributed to his health. I've been lucky I guess.

When I remarked about being kicked off the drill field, I guess I was alluding somewhat to what you were saying about the General and getting kicked out of the airplane. In order to get the snowflakes into shape, I think you would have to use methods that would now get you kicked off the drill field if caught. My career was not worth one of these little babies.

Thanks for your service. Let us hope there will always be enough volunteers to keep America safe.
Political correctness is destroying this country. I remember WWII and the unity we had as a united people. It was a wonderful feeling. Great to be WINNING again with President Trump. People need to toughen up like we did by solving their own problems and taking responsibility for their actions. Too many wimps today to please me.

"Let us hope there will always be enough volunteers to keep America safe."

That's why I don't want anything to do with bringing back the draft. There are so many quality young people that are standing up and taking the oath to support and defend our constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. We just don't hear about them, because they go out and do their jobs. We only hear about the crybabies because they are the loudest screaming about their rights or this or that.

To give you an example of the great young Marines we have out there today, read this recent submission to the weekly newsletter from Sgt. Grit of a Silver Start citation:

Lance Cpl. Cody Goebel
3rd Battalion, 5th Marines
Sangin, Afghanistan, Nov. 22, 2010
Award: Silver Star
While in Afghanistan’s Helmand province, Lance Cpl. Goebel was manning a security position in the southern Green Zone of Sangin District when he was struck in the neck by enemy small arms fire. Knocked to the ground and severely wounded at his post, he quickly picked himself up, remounted his machine gun, and engaged the enemy’s firing position with full knowledge that his position was critical to his squad’s defense. For seven minutes, he ignored his life threatening wounds and delivered devastating machine gun fire on the enemy’s position, all while refusing medical attention until he was properly relieved. Finally, but only after a fellow squad member had manned his machine gun, Goebel moved 25 meters under his own power and under heavy fire across the observation post’s roof and down a 20-foot ladder to the casualty collection point. Upon reaching the ground, he collapsed due to the loss of blood and had to be carried to a helicopter landing zone for subsequent medical evacuation. His courage, heroism, and dedication to duty after sustaining a life threatening injury resulted in the successful blocking of an enemy attack and six enemy fighters killed.

I ask you, would you want L/Cpl Goebel, a volunteer there supporting his fellow Marines, or L/Cpl Snowflake who doesn't want to be there in the first place? L/Cpl Snowflake probably would have gone down and stayed down and endangered that whole squad and maybe more people get wounded and/or killed because of it. I'd rather have a smaller force of dedicated professionals than a large force of people forced into it.

You are missing my point entirely. The Armed Services, particularly the Marines, have made men out of snowflakes since their creation. Granted, some never make it, but they are generally washed out..............at least they used to be. The annuls of history are crowded with people who proved to be heroes who never gave any indication of being capable. Some just need the chance to “grow up.” Some men are “men” at twelve, others at twenty and still others never grow up. Cutting them off from their possible worthiness when they are teens is wasting a lot of potential leadership,IMO.
