I’m one of those people who have been preaching for years that strong intelligence and law enforcement is good for society and protecting law abiding citizens from threats foreign and domestic, and carrying a big stick isn’t just military, it’s about recognizing and mitigating threats. ...and I still believe that, but you better believe, trust is damaged.
The absolute worst thing that can happen to betray the trust of normal law abiding people is for them to think that law enforcement, and worse yet intelligence gathering, can be turned on them for POLITICAL REASONS.
So far, it seems like it’s just political big dogs going after other political big dogs, but the damn already has a leak. Agents and operatives are not supposed to be going after our own people for political reasons.
