Devin Nunes May Summon Chief Justice To Testify On FISA Abuses
Daily Caller ^ | 2/8/2018 | Kevin Daley

GOP Rep. Devin Nunes of Calif., chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, may invite Chief Justice John Roberts to testify before the panel on alleged FISA abuses.

Nunes told radio host and Republican wise man Hugh Hewitt Thursday that committee Republicans have entertained the idea, as Roberts appoints all FISA judges, but cautioned no decision has yet been made. Hewitt and Nunes discussed the idea in connection with the committee’s memo on the secret intelligence courts, which alleged the FBI sought authorization to surveil President Donald Trump’s campaign aides on the basis of political opposition research.

“Now the chief justice appoints the FISA judges,” Hewitt said. “Have you had a chance to chat with him or any of the FISA judges about what went on at the FISA court with regard to the [Carter] Page application?”

Now Is the time for all good Chief Supreme Court justices to come to the aid of their country. He should testify and bring with him a list of judges needing to be impeached.

Not that it would happen in this case, but Congress does have the power to impeach a Supreme Court justice.

Theoretically he is an evangelical being he speaks directly to God. I used to claim he was a baptist ( Benedict) but this pope could be a member of any cult that wants to drink poison or chase spaceships. No offense to Fellow believers, but the scriptures do say we will be known by the fruit on our trees. Prayers for all Christian leaders to be bold in the faith and true to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

“Nunes my invite the Chief Justice, but SCOTUS is a co-equal branch of government and is not obligated to recognize or submit to a congressional subpoena.”

For the same reason, Trump should tell Mueller to go to hell.

Regarding Roberts, let him decline. He will look like he is hiding something.
I don’t think so. What, is he telling all the FISC judges “Pssst - take it easy on Democrats?” The judges don’t report to Roberts, and Roberts doesn’t report to Congress.

The bottom line is that the Congress has a problem - unless you think that Roberts should have declined to name judges to the FISCourt? That would be true if in fact FISA is unconstitutional - but SCOTUS is restricted to hearing cases brought to it, and FISA - being secret - does not give you a chance to appeal a ruling that you didn’t even know was being made.

The trouble with the FISC is that it exists to let the FBI et. al. to violate rights. Hence the judges are there to defer to the FBI - and hence, they did. What I do find passing strange is if the Hillary dossier was used for a warrant, and that dossier was created to smear Trump. If the name Trump was all over it, how did any judge - any judge - issue a warrant????

As Rush said today - he credited a friend for the info - the FISA is all about intelligence, not criminality. Hence, FISA is a tool for the POTUS personally, and hence the requested warrant to surveil Page and his associates including the Republican candidate for POTUS - and then including the POTUS himself. How does that work??? How does intelligence agency surveil POTUS "on behalf of POTUS” without the knowledge of POTUS ???

And what is really weird is that Special Counsel Muller has an intel - “Russian Collusion,” not criminal - remit. Investigating POTUS, while nominally existing for POTUS.

Judges are subject to the same laws as the rest of us. Bribery is one example of a law a judge can be charged with violating.

“Nunes told radio host and Republican wise man Hugh Hewitt”

I have not listened to Hugh in quite sometime now. Last time I listened to his show he was very anti-Trump.

I’d rather see the FISA court judge subpoenaed. I’m convinced he was complicit. He didn’t ask questions because he didn’t want to hear the answers.

Nunes: Justice Roberts, were you being blackmailed or threatened by anyone in the obama administration? [blink once for yes, twice for no]

“Is the President obligated to appear before a grand jury?”

In my opinion no, but politically it might be viewed poorly if he didn’t.

I would assert Executive privilege. Mueller works for Trump and could be fired by Trump. Congress could then impeach Trump.

I guess everyone is carrying an ugly stick; it’s whether or not they have the nuts to use it.

“The President can be fired by Congress. The President cannot do anything.”

The president can direct the DOJ to convene a grand jury against anyone - Congresman or not - and, if the evidence is there, get an indictment.

[...who does have oversight of FISA courts.”

Congress created FISC. The judiciary committee would have oversight.

I saw a list recently. IIRC ONE of them was appointed in 2017, so unless he was appointed in the first 3 weeks of the year, it was a Trump appointee.

FReepers, can you confirm or deny?

Roberts will decline; Separation of Powers. Nunes can probably get paperwork, however.
