Pope Francis was treated to a circus performance during his weekly audience in the Vatican on Wednesday.
A scantily-clad circus artist showed off his balancing skills in front of the Pope in the Paul VI hall, along with a handful of other chosen performers.
The muscly acrobat, whose toga-inspired outfit amounted to nothing more than white hotpants, a cloth across his chest and some gold lame fabric, later knelt before the overjoyed pontiff.
The performers, who included a juggler, other acrobats and two young boys dressed as ringmasters, are members of the Rony Rollers Circus.
Circus shows in the Paul VI hall has become a regular appearance in recent years, with Pope Francis often inviting different circus troupes every few weeks, the Catholic News Agency reports.

Several years ago I married into an intensely Catholic family. They spoke glowingly of past popes. This guy, they don’t even mention.

We went to the Vatican before Frankie and you did not go in unless your clothes were modest and respectful. Ladies knees and shoulders covered no shorts for men. Another standard gone l guess thanks to the anti Pope.

That man appears to be an acrobat. As I remember, acrobats always wore capes into the ring before doing their act. Why no cape on this guy? He should have worn a cape out of modesty and respect.

In fairness, the circus has been coming to the Vatican for many years now. The costumed performers do meet the pope, this is normal. Would I like more modest costumes? Of course. Keep in mind that they are in the audience hall and not inside St Peter’s.
Of course he is amused.
