The U.S. government's system of security clearances for top officials is "broken" and must be completely overhauled, the Trump administration's intelligence chief told The Associated Press.

“The Clinton WH had top people running things who were NEVER qualified for security clearances.”

Many of them had nontrivial drug offenses, according to a friend of mine who was a holdover from Bush-I and worked in the Clinton administration in the first year.

In the 70’s many security checks were done by DODNACC department of defense national agency check center. Army administered, field agents talked with lots of people. Drugs, alcohol, mental health, criminal records and more such as close relatives in foreign countries or having relationship to questionable organizations and you got no clearance!

If a Muslim convert who once voted for a self-declared communist can head up the CIA then absolutely *any person+ at all can, even beggars can do it.

yeah I would say it’s broken.

It truly was an eye-opener, especially from my perspective where I have had to undergo numerous investigations to initially receive and maintain my TS-SCI. Anyone elected to office (POTUS, HoR, Senate, etc.) get a clearance simply because their duties involve handling classified material, whether they deserve the clearance or not. HRC should NEVER have been SecState let alone been eligible for POTUS. Neither Bill nor Barry should have been POTUS based upon their lack of eligibility for clearances.

This is not news to me. Just look at who worked in the WH for Obama. It will take years, maybe decades, to recover from that.

NO!

There are multiple separate entities that conduct those background investigations.
(at least for DoD contractors)

The FBI may conduct them for WH staff, and it seems that ‘some’ critical information has been intentionally withheld from Trump, in another ‘weaponizing’ effort.

There’s no excuse for 15 year old charges not showing up in the first 12 months of employment.

It has taken up to a year to get a top secret security clearance for decades. This is not new at all. And some lamebrain idea about checking social media rather than actual leg work talking with friends and family and employees and employers is a crazy idea. Social media is too easy to distort and hack. There are companies for hire that will change your social media record.

At the hearings, wish someone asked Wray how Huma ever got her clearance. If she did, that is.

I’ll bet a lot of people get their security clearances because DIVERSITY. If a diligent agent finds and reports a legitimate issue for someone in a certain group, they probably risk being dismissed due to assumed racism or bigotry.

The Clinton’s broke the process, in 1992.

This. The Clinton WH had top people running things who were NEVER qualified for security clearances. They just ignored the requirement.

And most of Obie’s top people were the same people the Clinton’s used during Bill’s administration.

ValJar and Obie didn’t even have to break them in or train them. They just picked up and continued on with their corrupt ways and became stronger and better at their corruption.

I really appreciated the appendix to the book where he explained how the security process WOULD have and SHOULD have gone with the Clintons if one had actually been carried out)

When my Dad got his security clearance, back in the Forties/Fifties, they actually sent agents to his home town to talk to people and gather information.

The Clinton Administration, from the aides up to the President and First Lady (and everyone in between) not only DID NOT comply with security requirements, they openly, and with the full approval of everyone at the top, ignored, ridiculed, and flaunted security requirements.

And the next Democratic administration that comes in, its back to that standard or worse.

It’s amazing to me, especially considering the problem with leaks from the WH, that security checks didn’t have to be completed before people joined the WH staff. (That includes the prince and princess. I wonder if they have the judgement and life experiences to handle WH intrigue). Keep in mind that people in sensitive positions with serious background flaws can be exploited by holdovers who are out to destroy the Trump administration.

In the early 80s when I had my first extensive background check...it took around 120 days. By 2009, they’d reached the stage where it took almost fourteen months. I asked the last guy doing it why so long, and his view was that you had way more people with higher clearances than what you had in the 1980s. You had tons of people in Homeland Security with the higher clearance, and as he said...90-percent of them just needed a plain regular secret-clearance.

I would agree with the intel boss that the system is fairly broken. But to resolve this, you’d have to agree to dump 50-percent of folks from the TS-level and get a whole new mentality about the logic behind the investigation.

The agents did that with my investigations as well. Got copies of the interviews.

I agree.

Leopards do not change their spots.

And anti-American, anti-Constitutional, American-hating liberals with those spots don’t change theirs either.

FBI says it closed its investigation on Porter months ago.

The question remains whether Porter passed the background check for a security clearance or not.

Whenever the ‘Rats destroy or abuse something intentionally we are informed that it is “broken”.

The immigration system is broken.

The welfare system is broken.

Social Security is broken.

The electoral voting system is broken.

Now, after more than 25 years of ‘Rats abusing the system for conducting background investigations, we are informed that the system is broken.
