Senators Strike Bipartisan Deal on Immigration Despite Veto Threat
NY Times ^ | Feb. 14, 2018 | SHERYL GAY STOLBERG and MICHAEL D. SHEAR

A broad bipartisan group of senators reached agreement Wednesday on a narrow rewrite of the nation’s immigration laws that would bolster border security and resolve the fate of the so-called Dreamers, even as President Trump suggested he would veto any plan that does not adhere to his harder-line approach.

Their compromise legislation sets up a clash pitting the political center of the Senate against Mr. Trump and the Republican congressional leadership. Senators in both parties have been racing against a self-imposed end-of-the-week deadline to write legislation that could win wide support by increasing border security while at the same time offering a path to citizenship for young immigrants brought to the United States illegally as children.

Members of the bipartisan group, which calls itself the Common Sense Coalition, said their deal does just that. They were working Wednesday evening to determine whether their bill could garner the 60 votes necessary to break a filibuster.

No reason to stretch it out, except to prevent it from actually happening.

Bingo.

And how many more pregnant illegals would rush in during that intentionally slow pace, even if it was completed within 10 years? Moreover, it is quite likely succeeding Red Dem admins would cease funding.

With funding, a secure system of physical walls/electronic devices/suitable structures per terrain. etc. could be completed within 18 months by separate local contractors. (For example, see WWII)

The president should demand a Constitutional amendment banning birthright citizenship, too, as part of any so-called deal.

The president made a mistake by not deploying active duty military personnel to the southern border in January 2017.

He should have kept them deployed there until the wall was built if not longer (or perhaps permanently deployed).

Virtually every other country in the world uses their military to protect their borders. Why not America?

In other words, it’s the 2007 bill that didn’t get passed or the Gang of 8 bill.

They have to be the dumbest collection of worthless on the planet. God, they are annoying.

Who votes for these people??

The American people vote for these people and will continue to do so in many cases simply because of name recognition.

I doubt it will pass the House... If it should, veto it Prez. Trump!

Republicans are letting themselves be bamboozled by the Dems again.

Those "Republicans" are not being bamboozled by the Democrats, because no bamboozling is necessary. They support illegal immigration and are in full agreement with the Democrats.

Paul Ryan said the House would not even take up a Senate bill that does not contain Trump’s priorities.
The Senate will never produce such a bill.
This is not going anywhere.

We have this next election to clean House and hopefully Cantorize some weasels and elect people who side with the citizens and the rule of law.

We currently have just FOUR Senators on our side.

Flake, Corker, Hatch, Heller, Alexander, Graham, McCain, Murkowsky, Hoeven, Rubio, Tillis, Burr, Lankford, Gardner, Cornyn, Cochran, Collins, Sasse, Kennedy, Shelby, Ernst, Blunt, McConnell, Wicker, Portman, Isakson, Johnson, Toomey, Rounds, Thune, Barasso and Enzi are all Bush League Republicans. They want amnesty for 30 million.

It’s is critical that the citizens get more Senators on their side.

This is going to go the way of Obamacare repeals, all talk, plans no one supports, and then failure. Good side for us—beyond an activist judiciary—is that there should be no DACA and no amnesty.

Simple answer by Trump. DACA has citizenship when the wall is completed. Until then deportations of the criminal element will continue.

“Until then deportations of the criminal element will continue.”

Any illegal is BY DEFINITION a criminal element and should be deported. Don’t fall into the semantic claptrap of the lying left about the “undocumented good people”, it has been set up to blurry the line between wrong and right. It’s the lawlessness created and abetted by the left that leads to the current messy situation.
