Kevin Durant and LeBron James' video on Uninterrupted covered a multitude of topics: being All-Stars, being rich black men and living under President Donald Trump. James has been a vocal critic of Trump in the past, and this was no different. "(Trump) doesn't give a f--- about people," James said, and Durant agreed with him.
That prompted Fox News host Laura Ingraham to respond to their comments about Trump. She said they should "shut up and dribble" instead of giving their thoughts on the president of The United States.
In an interview with USA Today's Sam Amick, Durant responded to the news anchor's comments. He was blunt in his feelings.
While Ingraham would later put out a statement claiming there was "no racial intent" behind her words, Durant simply doesn't agree.
"To me, it was racist," he said while shaking his head.
Q: So how did her comments hit you when you first heard them?
A: "It didn't hit me. Ignorance is something I try to ignore. That was definitely an ignorant comment. I do play basketball, but I am a civilian and I am a citizen of the United States, so my voice is just as loud as hers, I think or even louder. I can't focus on that. I think we're doing some good things out here, using our platform, and I think what me and LeBron did with Uber (and UNINTERRUPTED) the other day when it came out, I thought it was great. I thought a lot of people enjoyed it.
James responded to the comments as well in an Instagram post. In lights is the phrase "I Am More Than An Athlete" with the caption "We will not shut up and dribble"
How about having your agent call up Fox News, Kevin, and arrange a debate with Laura? Afraid she'd expose you as someone that should shut up and dribble?
I guess James and Durant never want to be challenged or feel uncomfortable like the whole world should be their own safe space.
One could say that it’s LeBron and Durant’s attitude that is racist. They are openly hostile to white men who exhibit strength and determination.
No LeBron - YOUR statements were racist and your attitudes are bigoted.
Get bent.
Yep, they are the racist.
These two appear to think they are part of an aristocratic class beyond criticism. They are not - at least not yet.
Racist, overpaid, lecturing fools, as emotionally mature as five year olds. If anything makes them feel bad, race card comes out.
For a pampered, millionaire athlete, he is an a$$hat. The nincompoop should shut up and dribble, and that has nothing to do with his race or profession.
His favorite preezy Barry, kept everyone on the demcrat plantation with no jobs and no prospects... which was just fine with LeBron.
I wish I was a huge fan of the nba so I could quit watching in protest of these morons.
But I quit paying attention to them years ago so I can’t.
Durant went from really seeming like a stand up guy a few years ago to being a real douche. Any good will has worn off.
From what I heard and read, Lebron and KD engaged in a bunch of childish, playground level name calling. Haven’t heard of any well thought out criticisms with specifics to support the general conclusions.
Shut up dribble sounds like good advice if the political commentary they’ve offered so far is typical of what they have to offer.
“I think what me and LeBron did with Uber”
I’m pretty sure he should have said “what LeBron and I did with Uber”...
If he can’t use the simplest proper grammar, then he does appears to be an ignorant jock-who should should shut up and dribble...
Seems to me their comment about Trump were racist, since they would never say that about Obastard.
Arrogant, narcissitic children
Boo hoo. Poor blacks. Why is everybody always picking on me?
Yeah yeah everything is racist.
Yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.
Today, everybody endlessly expresses opinions online.
Celebs who do so are "just like us."
Plus, things that work with an audience of like-minded people ("shut up"), don't work with other audiences and can cause a backlash.
Gee one would think that LBJ is only a black man and nothing more. That is his sole identity and nothing else is important. Sounds obsessive to me.
Keep this up and they and several others (including more then one coach) will do for the NBA what Kaepernick and associates have done for the NFL, attendance and viewership wise.
Many folks just don’t look to sports and entertainment figures for political and social commentary, and when it’s more or less imposed upon them, more than a few tend to lose interest in the self-styled commentators primary professional pursuit.
I have pretty good list of entertainers who are automatic mute button material and I have no interest in their “art” or performances. Some sports figures are working their way onto the same list.
