The president’s personal pilot is on the administration's short list to head the Federal Aviation Administration. Trump has told a host of administration officials and associates that he wants John Dunkin — his longtime personal pilot, who flew him around the country on Trump Force One during the campaign — to helm the agency, which has a budget in the billions and which oversees all civil aviation in the United States.
What I'm hearing: One industry insider equated this to the Seinfeld episode when Cosmo Kramer used his golf caddy as a jury consultant. A senior administration official told me that comparison is completely unfair. The source confirmed Trump recommended Dunkin and that he’s sat for an interview for the post. That source said he was impressive.

The would seem to me to make him more qualified than Sam Graves and could put him on an equal footing with the current acting FAA administrator.
But the press won't talk about that.

Of course it’s ok for Obama to appoint ex-communists and wise-latinas to posts.
Two points:
1. It is the President’s prerogative to nominate anyone he wants for any job he wants. He won.
2. The FAA is so backwards and behind the times, they need someone outside the Swamp.
If Trump knows and respects the guy, go with it. It is his nomination.
The FAA is currently run by non-pilots. Anyone is better.

As a licensed pilot (ATP) for over 60 years all I can say is YEA! GO FOR IT! Its about time someone who knows something about aviation is being considered.

Several years ago I was in a NORAD meeting that included the FAA, the rep started his briefing stating:
“I’m with the FAA where we’re not happy until you’re unhappy.”
Gee, a pilot running the FAA.

My feeling is, if Trump thinks the guy knows his stuff, and the guy is interested, he should nominate him. Let his knowledge speak for itself when he gets in front of a confirmation committee. He sounds like he could handle that.
