A former Texas Republican leader is downplaying the news of a high Democratic voter turnout in Tuesday's primaries.
Democrats in the Lone Star State turned out Tuesday in the largest numbers for a midterm primary election in more than a decade. According to some media reports, they were venting their pent-up anger at President Donald Trump and this first state primary of the 2018 election cycle provided that opportunity.
Their party, however, has emerged winless in statewide races for governor and U.S. senator for more than 20 years, and they face long odds this November of ousting Republicans such as U.S. Senator Ted Cruz – who registered a landslide win over his competitor.
Cathie Adams is a former chairman of the Republican Party of Texas. She says the reports of massive Democratic turnout were a bit misleading.
"They did turn out in early voting, which Texas has quite a bit," she acknowledges. "But on Election Day, Republicans turned out en mass as much as two to one. So it wasn't quite what the mainstream media was trying to turn it into: that Democrats were all motivated."

My county voted 9 to 1 Republican. Unfortunately, we’re going to get stuck with Peebrain Bush. Don’t know why Cruz even gave “Beto” the time of day since he is so far behind in votes.
As has been pointed out, the record for Dem turnout in off year primaries in TX was in 2002. If you consider how much the minority population in TX must have grown in the past 16 years, the fact Dems were below 2002 in turnout isn’t very impressive.
It was Republicans who set a new record for off year turnout, slightly above 2014, which was the previous record. You don’t hear much about that.
Unfortunately, it also blows up in our faces, too.

If the Democrats in Texas were smart, they would just stay home and not vote during the November election. If not, I suggest they lean on Barack Hussein Obama & Hillary Clinton to come to Texas to campaign for Democrat Party candidates. Hmmn, maybe that ain’t so good an idea, ya think?
Fifty (50) percent more Republicans turned out than Democrats. About 1.5 million Republicans, as opposed to about a million Democrats.

Cross-over voting is currently allowed in Texas but that may soon change. One of the Repub resolutions on the R ballot was to close primaries to non-party members. Of course that has good points and bad points but it would eliminate the possibility of a D wave picking a poor R candidate.
I don’t think there was very much cross-voting in the last primary. The Ds had bunches of candidates and several internal factions vying for a place on the November ballot, so I suspect most of the Ds voted on the D side for the loser of their choice.
On the D side, is there any pattern as to who was favored? Were there candidates who tried to sound moderate? Were they all angry hard left types?

No, most of the Republicans were uncontested.
Apparently, if you are registered as a democrat, you cannot vote in the republican primary. There are exceptions for voting for independents, but if you were currently registered democrat, you could not vote in the republican primary.
When I went to the poles, they asked me “what ballot, Republican or Democrat?” So anyone could vote in either Primary, in my precinct at least. They didn’t care.
They did check picture ID and pulled my sticker off the list and put it in the book and made me sign, so I wouldn’t be voting again.
I don’t see a lot of Democrats voting in the republican primary or vice versa. There were too many contested down ballot races to not try to Primary the Rinos or keep big money Rinos from getting in.
There are a few congress seats that might Flip to Democrat. If I were Pete Sessions I would be worried, as a good looking, Pro Football playing Baylor graduating, progressive civil rights attorney who actually goes door to door talking to voters checks a lot of boxes. He buried DFW’s pajama boy Ed Meier who spent a ton of money on TV ads saying how much trump sucks and how we need universal healthcare.
Statewide the Democrats are a complete Joke. Beto’s Mom said she’d vote for him in the Primary, but wasn’t going to promise him anything about the general election.
Beto’s mom doesn’t look or sound hispanic and if Beto’s Dad’s last name is O’Rourke, just how “hispanic” is he? 1/8? 1/16?
