ational Geographic has admitted its past reporting on different cultures around the world was racist.
The US magazine acknowledged in an editorial that for decades its coverage was racist, adding that the only way to rise above its past was to acknowledge it.
For its upcoming issue, dedicated solely to race and how it defines, separates, and unites us, the magazine asked a preeminent historian to examine the publications own history.

I learned to read pretty early in life thanks to a Sears catalog that my mother would read with me most nights. I’ll never forget the meaning of “Good, Better and Best”.
I remember when Jesse Jackson ran for President in 1984, a joke was going around that he had to drop out because a picture of his mother turned up in Nat Geo.
National Geographic long ago turned into a a social justice joke. Too bad, it used to be a great magazine with great photos and maps.
National Geographic was the most popular magazine in the Middle School library.
I don’t think the librarians ever caught on why..................
Linky no worky............

South Pacific islands liberated by U.S. forces such as Yap, Marquesas, Marianas, or which became U.S. bases after 1945, had cultures where local women went topless, purely optional.
Wonder what the decisionmakers were thinking when they chose base locations?
The women may have been Micronesian rather than Polynesian (Tahiti was featured in Nat Geo in the 1920’s & 1930’s) but were well worth a second look.
Library collections of Nat Geo from that era have probably long since been scissored into oblivion.
Linky no worky for me either.
Don’t forget the cover of Whipped Cream and Other Delights by the Tijuana Brass. Oh, man, when my dad brought that home . . . I became a big Herb Alpert fan!
I think I may have one of those in my album collection, that was my fathers. Ill have to look.
“The only fair thing to do now is to publish pictures of bare-breasted white women, until the numbers of such photos equals the past number of bare-breasted non-white women.”
The only public displays are in feminist marches. You want to blind the readership?
That’s one warm summer:)
maybe just until we need glasses ....
Perfect GIF! LOL.
And a new “Milkshake Duck” champion is crowned. Gonna be tough to beat this.
