STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho will begin a rare two-day visit on Thursday to Sweden, which represents the United States diplomatically in the isolated country, the Swedish Foreign Ministry said. {snip}

In its statement, it noted that the U.N. Security Council had unanimously condemned North Korea’s nuclear weapons and missile programs and demanded the “complete, verifiable and irrevocable elimination of these programs”.

The back channel is open...this meeting will start the process of setting up the meeting.....also don’t be surprised if Sweden is where the meeting takes place.

Watching the press is like watching the Special Olympics without the inspiration.

Breathlessly they speculated Trump would be meeting Un in Pyongyang when the news broke (and give away the farm).

Switzerland makes much more sense even if speculation.

It's impossible for me to believe that this fat psychopath...a psychopath who's shown himself willing to murder relatives with anti-tank weapons and nerve agents...is gonna give anything up.As a result I hope DJT has skilled people around him who are able to advise him on how to manage the failure of these talks...assuming they take place at all.

DJT has a negotiating history. He understands the game, games his adversaries and usually wins. He is known for fall back positions and alternative plans. In this instance, he may be far more adept than any of his advisors, all of whom have a history of unimaginative normalcy bias.

Would you rather play poker against The Donald or his advisors?

Yes,that's certainly occurred to me.It's conceivable that the Chinese,not wanting nuclear war to break out on their border,have taken Kim Jong Psychopath aside and told him he can't depend on them anymore.That,plus an offer of asylum in China and a couple of billion deposited in a Swiss bank account might just convince him that the game is over.But loss of China's support is the *only* thing that would make him even *consider* throwing in the towel...and we don't know if that's happened.

DJT has a negotiating history.

True enough.But how many of the real estate deals that he's crafted over the years involved a family with the blood of millions on its hands...and nuclear missiles?

___________
Like the shadows on the wall of Plato’s Cave, we only see the inferences. However, those inferences (which could be wrong) are that China has bigger fish to fry and Kim has outlived his utility.

Well, sure, but he’s had to deal with the mob (blood of hundreds of thousands, anyway) and as for the missiles: Donald has implied several times that they are hyped and we not only have more, ours are larger and they work.

Besides, when has Kim actually aimed at and hit anything? He’s more an extortionist than an annihilator.

I don’t think Donald is a cowboy. He may play one on TV, but it’s usually bait for the arrogant.

YMMV
