Emerging technology?

Maybe back in the days of the Romans, now not so much.

I guess he needed to use the "/s" tag. Sarcasm is very dependent on tone of voice and often fails on forums.

I posted a sarcastic tweet about this yesterday, and got serious agreement with it!

Here it is in all it's sarcastic glory!

#BanConcreteBriges #NeverAgain #WalkOutForConcreteBan

We saw the same thing in the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989 when the Cypress freeway collapsed. Why do we continue to permit structures that can, literally, crush people continue to be built?

We need #ComprehensiveBridgeControl to prevent more innocent lives from needlessly being lost.

I got a response agreeing, and making suggestions for alternative bridge design.

I think it wasn't accidents at the actual crossing but skip jumping across the highway at unspecified points. Still, I think I read it was maybe 7 fatalities over a period of many, many years.

Lotsa Federal Funds via Obama for this monstrosity.

That’s certainly a great alternative.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., tweeted Thursday that the cables that suspended the bridge "had loosened & the engineering firm ordered that they be tightened. They were being tightened when it collapsed."

Huh? What cables? Is he talking about cables that were supposed to come from a tower and support the bridge, or other cables?

That “stress test” is post-tensioning work on the cables running inside tubes in the concrete

Ah! Ignore my previous post.

None since opening abt. 2009-10. It is used daily by numerous people at a large and busy intersection. Also it is on a hiking/jogging trail.

You’re absolutely right. I just watched a video on this design. The design is a monstrosity....way overdesigned for it’s real purpose. I’ll try and find it.

Well, to be fair, bridge building is an emerging technology.

Emerging from hundreds of years of practice?

Is having the chair at the scene unusual?

Obama is there?

“Additional tightening of the tensioning mechanism while the bridge was under its dead load might have stressed the concrete surrounding the tensioning mechanism to failure, resulting in the catastrophic collapse.”

I think this is what it is going to turn out to be.

“Additional tightening of the tensioning mechanism while the bridge was under its dead load might have stressed the concrete surrounding the tensioning mechanism to failure, resulting in the catastrophic collapse.”

A roundabout way of stating that the stress test failed due to the bridge failing due to stressed concrete.

Whoever decided it was OK to keep vehicle traffic allowed under the bridge during testing will make a huge thud as they go under the bus,

“Emerging technology? Maybe back in the days of the Romans, now not so much.”

I kinda thought referring to bridge building as an emerging technology would be pretty obvious as sarcasm.

I think it wasn't accidents at the actual crossing but skip jumping across the highway at unspecified points.

...

A pedestrian bridge won't change that kind of behavior in South Florida.

For instance:

A woman was killed and her children were hospitalized after they were struck as they were part of a group that was crossing the Palmetto Expressway in Miami-Dade Thursday, officials said.

The incident happened in the southbound lanes of S.R. 826 at Okeechobee Road, Florida Highway Officials said.

FHP spokesman Joe Sanchez said the family was part of a group of three adults and seven children that were crossing the busy highway on their way to Chuck E. Cheese.

One adult and three children were struck by a Ford SUV.

Democrats have been breeding and importing idiots for over 50 years and a lot of them are in the Miami area.

Good lord people. Here’s a clue. When someone refers to bridge building as an emerging technology and says we are only beginning to understand it.....that would be sarcasm!
You see, humanity has a several thousand year track record of building bridges.

That’s the joke...get it?
