"FIU is about building bridges and student safety. This project accomplishes our mission beautifully," said FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg said in a statement earlier this month. "We are filled with pride and satisfaction at seeing this engineering feat come to life and connect our campus to the surrounding community where thousands of our students live."

In Florida, among those of us who have had to deal with FIU engineers, FIU is commonly called Florida Immitation University. Their engineering grads suck. Lots of religion of pieces cheating halfwits.

The Milvian Bridge in Rome, built around the first century, is still in place, and still in use for foot traffic.

This one's been around since 1673. Only vehicles, though, have been bicycles.

Dirty deeds done dirt cheap?
“Donna Riley, who previously taught engineering at Smith College for 13 years, published an article in the most recent issue of the journal Engineering Education, arguing that academic rigor is a dirty deed that upholds white male heterosexual privilege.

Might uphold privilege, but would it hold up a bridge?

If this is the kind of bridge the laudatory “experts” think is an example of how to renew the world, I am all for building walls.
Bridges collapse even without assault. A well-built wall can stand for centuries.
See the Great Wall in China.

I’ll bet that the residue/aftermath, if left alone, will do as they ‘Designed’.

Based on the Roman Arch, super strong, self supporting, ancient technology. Look at some of the remaining Roman Aquaducts still standing after thousands of years.

Florida bridge that collapsed was touted as 'engineering feat come to life' He just didn't know it would be such a short lifespan.

As a welder for over 50 years I can definitely say there is a difference in American and import steel [mainly Chinese] Korean steel is pretty good as is Brazilian.

Chinese supplied Oakland-SF Bay Bridge replacement—bolts snapping?
To: Navy Patriot
“The bridge was built in full before being rotated and moved into place over a portion of 8th Street, US 41, in just a few hours.”
Since it was to ultimately be supported by cable stays and not completed until next year, it was not built “in full” as was stated. The deck and roof may have been, but not the entire bridge.

Pre-stress tested.No. Post-tensioned. With light weight concrete, per the first news reports. I suspect individual components may have been pre-stressed prior to being assembled together via the post-tensioning process, however.
