he year was 1990 and Republican U.S. Sen. Pete Wilson claimed his first term as California governor, replacing another Republican, George Deukmejian. Two years earlier, California voters helped send George H.W. Bush to the White House with a 3.6-point win over Democrat Michael Dukakis.

Nearly three decades later, so much has changed.

Democrats have monopolized California government, with the party holding every statewide office and dominating both chambers of the Legislature. Bush was the last Republican to win a presidential contest in the state. President Donald Trump lost California by over 4 million votes to Hillary Clinton.

FAKE NEWS ALERT!

Arnold doesn’t want a “Centrist” GOP. Arnold wants a GOP that is indistinguishable from the DNC, except for maybe taxes.

Arnold is a girly-boy greedy progressive.

"Centrist" means they are all for entitlements and governmental social engineering, but they don't want to pay for it. They want YOU to pay for it.

The GOP must die and be replaced.

Creating a “centrist” GOP would be a step in that direction. The legitimate American electorate is moving right. It’s time to follow them.

“I’m centrist on some issues, but I don’t see a centrist GOP.”

The only thing I am centrist on is the X ring.

I don’t take any advice from a high profile person married to a beautiful woman who then knocks up the older Hispanic housekeeper.

Keep it in your pants, ARNOLD, and keep your mouth shut.

We gave you a chance in California, and you blew it.

Centrist Republicans are Progressives who want MNCs to rule us, with governments acting as controllers and nannies for the labor force.

Democrats are Progressives who want government to rule us, with MNCs acting as controllers and the reward/punishment for the labor force.

O’Sullivan’s First Law
An eternal truth.

By John O’Sullivan

EDITOR’S NOTE: This appeared in the October 27, 1989, issue of National Review.

Robert Michels — as any reader of James Burnham's finest book, The Machiavellians, knows was the author of the Iron Law of Oligarchy. This states that in any organization the permanent officials will gradually obtain such influence that its day-to-day program will increasingly reflect their interests rather than its own stated philosophy. To take a homely example, congressmen from egalitarian parties somehow end up voting for higher pay and generous expenses for congressmen.

O'Sullivan's First Law:

All organizations that are not actually right-wing will over time become left-wing. I cite as supporting evidence the ACLU, the Ford Foundation, and the Episcopal Church. The reason is, of course, that people who staff such bodies tend to be the sort who don't like private profit, business, making money, the current organization of society, and, by extension, the Western world. At which point Michels's Iron Law of Oligarchy takes over — and the rest follows.
The best example of O’Sullivan’s Law is journalism. The motive of the journalist is to persuade, and to be looked up to as a leader. The easiest way to attract attention is with bad news, so journalists promote and deliver bad news. Journalists know that they do that; it’s in Journalism 101. Journalists also claim to be objective, as a way to promote their own influence. But of course, that can only be true if negativity (their rice bowl, bad news) is objectivity. Is that true? Only a cynic can believe it.

So journalism is cynical toward society, and negative towards government only in the sense that it blames government for not doing enough to correct the “evil” of society. That is, journalism proclaims itself to be objective but the motivation of journalists drives socialism as the default position.

Ah-nold Schwollenpecker killed the CA GOP. He has no business involving himself in anything except Democrat affairs, which he has helped enormously.
