When students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas return to class after spring break next week, they'll be required to carry clear backpacks.
The move is meant to ramp up security measures after last month's deadly shooting in Parkland, Florida, and a series of breaches since.
"Clear backpacks are the only backpacks that will be permitted on campus," said Broward County School Superintendent Robert Runcie said in a letter sent to parents.
The district will provide the bags for free, he said. In addition to the new backpack policy, students and school staff will be required to wear IDs at all times while on campus.
Some students have said they're not happy with the changes.
Tyra Hemans, 19, a senior, told CNN she supports parts of the new policy, such as the ID requirement. But she believes other security measures, such as forcing students to carry clear backpacks, don't adequately address the real problem with school safety, which she says is lax gun laws.
"I'm not happy with it. Why are you punishing me for one person's actions?" she said.

The irony is stunning, as "Tyra" says this and then turns around and in the next quote calls for gun control.
The last thing I would do, if my kids were in MSD School? Let them go back. I would consider the school, and perhaps the entire county to be a long-term problem, and it’d be time to move (maybe one state over).

So those upscale lefty schools need to be run like prisons to try to prevent the upscale lefty kids from committing atrocious violent crimes.

* And an orange uniform with a number on it for every student to keep them all accounted for and safe?
And really, what are the chances that school gets shot up again?

I graduated from HS at 17. Maybe this girl should try going for a GED and move on.
Get rid of ALL teachers in public schools currently? Are you positing that ALL teachers are the problem? Believe it or not, there are MANY teachers in public education who DO have principles and try to impart these ideals onto their students.
Maybe if more of us (Conservatives) actually tried to usurp control of the public education system AWAY from the leftists by BECOMING teachers and administrators, we wouldn't have to sit here day-in and day-out bitching about them so much.
