Oh yeah.
At my unit in Germany we had a mechanic who was a female, and she could out do her male counterparts.... And made coveralls look good too.
I was drafted Nov. 22nd, 1965. Did Basic in Ft. Gordon, GA. The 40 yard “Low-Crawl”, was the breaker for me. The first 20 wasn’t bad, turning around and going back, for the last 20, did me in. Out of a score of 500, I did 426 on the PT test. The “Low-Crawl”, zapped my score.
Till this day, I dread the “Low-Crawl”.
You went through Sill?
Wow! The army may increase the number of required push-ups from 1 to 2...And may restrict the use of caddy carts to carrying ONLY ammo, backpacks, prayer rugs, and tea settings when in combat situations...Soldiers MAY have to carry their weapon now, unless they are of the following 4 genders: x1, yz, it, and fu...

Yes, Sir. Bravo 3/321. My MOS was 91B, we went to Sill because it was the closest BCT site to Ft. Sam.
I’ve been waiting for this. ‘bout time.
I was @ 1/31
I had no problem with the low crawl thru the sawdust pit considering I was only about 5'5" and 125 lbs. I just slithered thru. But it was my worst experience in basic training. Knowing what I know now, I would have taken the shirt out of the front of my pants.....I think you know what I mean.......LOL!
:)
Was that the OSUT Barracks up on the hill?
Don’t let Mattis hear you say that.
Made me think of enlisting...I am sure I can beat these young pussies at PT.
I am 69 but work out HARD everyday.
You and the army are on the same wavelength. From the article:
Gen. James McConville, the Army's vice chief of staff, told Military.com that the service is considering revising its screening process to better prepare recruits for basic training and beyond.
Besides screening candidates physical fitness before they begin BCT, the Army would screen them again at the start of training to make sure they can meet the physical demands...
We were the starship across the street from the shopette.
Looking at Google maps, it looks so much different now.
The field behind the shopette where we did PT is now occupied by “Cache Creek Chapel”, Gunners Inn is now the “Ft Sill Conference Center”, the barracks that were behind Quarry Hill Chapel are now gone.
The starship across from Quarry Hill was 2/80(AIT), but early ‘92 it was where reception was located. By mid 92, they moved reception over on main post putting it closer to CIF, medical, etc.
Crazy. If you stood in formation on our CTA, and did an about face, the Gunners was across the road to your left. I can’t remember but I think out PT field was to the right. I remember going right and then up the hill to Quarry Hill Chapel. They reflagged all the BCT Batteries in the late 90’s. I do remember all the cabs stacking up across from the Gunner’s on Friday nights though.
Me neither, and the rot goes all the way back to the Clinton years.
Dang, just realized I posted the wrong video.
This is the one I was meaning to post:
That’s okay by me. We want just the ones who can hack it.
