“My only problem with it is that the same cops who carried out this shooting would probably arrest any private citizen who had responded the same way they did.”
They would have to arrest them-—doesn’t mean that there would be charges-——or conviction.
.
I know exactly what you mean. Some African-Americans I know began talking about “the Talk” with their children on how to survive encounters with the police.
I was raised in Texas and I never had to have that talk. We all KNEW what would happen if we pointed anything at the Texas Rangers. We all KNEW what would happen if we ducked our head down in the car, reaching for the glove box.
It had absolutely nothing to do with race, national origin or creed. Don’t mess with policeman’s mind and never mess with the Rangers. You will die.
And if this guy had been white, there would be no story.
The department doesn’t typically release to the public body-cam footage 18 minutes after a police-involved shooting simply to appease Al Sharpton or his fellow-travelling cop-haters. An investigation is usually conducted first.
“I know Im just a middle age, middle class, married male, just average,...”
Gasp! You sound like a deplorable...
There is no obligation to arrest anyone who shoots someone in self defense.
In my part of Wyoming if someone were to aim something at me and I were to respond by making a few holes in them the only thing the local deputies would do is critique my grouping.
See the photo in post 6. The pipe is small but clearly looks like a gun.
The cops didn’t “mistake a metal pipe for a gun.”
The deceased tried to make them think the metal pipe was a gun pointed at them, and he succeeded.
Just another variation of “suicide by cop.”
Darwinism, contrasted to the woman with the knife that resulted in that disastrous SCOTUS result re LEO liability.
Looks very much like a gun. Not a good idea to point a thing that looks like a gun at a cop.
We will naturally now have to put up with media enabled protests, that we need to “..have a national conversation about..”, etc. No thank you, I’ve heard enough already.
To the protesters waiting for the BLM signs to get printed up:
1. Stay home, or better yet, get a job.
2. This idiot, and many like him earned his Darwin Award.
3. It doesn’t matter that he was black, white, brown, green or purple. It definitely doesn’t matter if he was good kid, bad kid, came from a poor neighborhood, was going to school, becoming rapper, getting his life together, did drugs, didn’t do drugs - whatever.
4. Actions have consequences. Don’t go around pretending to shoot people. Don’t rough up store owners, law enforcement, or threaten anyone with theft, injury or death. Act like an adult. Grow up. Contribute to society by not being a burden on it.
5. You’re being used. Used by Leftists, used by race baiters like Sharpton & Jackson, used by lawyers seeking to cash in, used by people too stupid or unwilling to accept why they are disenfranchised from a good life.
“What are the maniacs after? A world where police cant use guns?”
That is exactly what they want. In fact, they want all law abiding people to be either unable or unwilling to defend themselves. It was reported yesterday that students at Howard University are protesting with one of the demands that the campus police disarm!
Mamma don’t need no life surinse when she gots me and scratch-offs. Who says black mens aint no good?
Suicide by cop!
The headline is highly misleading compared to the information in the article.
I hate the Washington Post.
If I am a cop and he points that at me he’s probably going to get exactly what happened. If I am CCW and he points that at me or my family same thing. He may be mentally ill but I don’t know that and even if I did today maybe the day he goes over the edge. It is a regrettable shooting but a righteous shoot if I am on a grand jury.
Another prime example of someone with a mental illness who probably needed to be institutionalized.
That is another unwanted side affect to making guns illegal. People will be killed by police by paranoid cops. See how it works in New York?
