The Great Scott of Florida
NRO ^ | 8 April 2018 | John Fund

Rick Scott, Florida’s popular governor, has a good chance of ousting a Democratic senator this fall. . . snip

Conservatives feel good about Scott taking his record to the voters this November. Ron DeSantis, a Republican congressman who is running to succeed Scott as governor, told me this weekend that Scott will also be able to pummel Nelson, the Democratic incumbent senator, for his votes against Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch and against the Trump tax cut. Grover Norquist, the president of Americans for Tax Reform, says Scott can use the state’s prosperity to appeal to many voters who wouldn’t normally be reachable. A recent Mason Dixon poll, for example, found that even 59 percent of Democrats think that the state’s economy is on the right track. Rick Scott signed and kept the pledge against raising taxes for eight years.

Even better, “he cut taxes each and every year of his governorship,” Norquist told me. “He always put taxpayers ahead of the special interests, and that’s a winning political formula.”

A good overview of Gov. Scott and analysis of his appeal to the voters of Florida.

This puts Florida into play for a Republican pickup in the Senate. Enjoy.

If Republican Governor, Rick Scott runs against Democrat Senator, Bill Nelson....it will be no contest at all. Nelson is braindead when standing on his feet and talking. Scott will win in a landslide....with up to a million vote victory margin. The Democrat Party will not have a good political year in the state of Florida.

Rick Scott screwed us on the assault rifle issue. Hope he looses the primary. If he doesn’t, I hope the Dems pick up that seat. He will screw us in CongressDavid Hogg was given credibility by Scott’s gutless capitulation on the gun issue.

Wouldn’t vote for this jerk ever again.

Lucky, my senator is Dorko Rubio, who will also never vote for again.

I’ve no need for or use of weak Repubics.

Not if the 100s of thousands of Puerto Rican’s, who are never going back to their island have anything to say about it. They’re probably already drafting the lawsuits to allow all of them to vote in Florida, if they meet some resistance. They will win. Scott will lose. Florida will go completely, Blue. And that will be all.

At least with Nelson you know you’re getting an anti-Second Amendment Senator.

......................................................
Nelson has been a brain dead Democrat for ALL of his far too lengthy career. I would vote for a dead horse before I would ever vote for Nelson WHO HOLDS THE SENATE SEAT IN QUESTION.

I am angry with Scott too over the assault rifle issue, however, I am NOT DUMB ENOUGH to throw Scott off the bridge in favor of a bloody damn COMMIE like Nelson. Scott has been a GOOD GOVERNOR with only a few errors. Since I vote in Florida and am a 2nd Amendment Defender, I WILL BE voting for Scott.

Scott is a crook. His record of being a multi millionare CEO who narrowly avoided of being convicted of Medicare fraud will come out in the campaign.

He is a poor choice for Republicans.

“This is way too optimistic.
Scott pissed of the NRA”

Do you live in Florida? It sounds like you don’t and don’t know much about the electorate. Scott is very popular across the board (as much as any Republican can be with Democrats). But his record on taxes is a winner across the board...remember, Florida is a retirement state and even Democrats count their pennies when they retire.

Nelson has been giving up his general appeal year by year. He started out getting elected as a centrist and a former astronaut to boot. Since then he has steadily moved to the left...the past 8 Obama years he simply drank the Kool Aid. This is something that will hurt many Democrats..Obama played hardball with many Democrats to vote yes on issues they normally wouldn’t have. Nelson is a perfect example. He sold his soul to the full Obama Commie agenda and now he has to pay the price.

As far as NRA’ers, why would they vote for Nelson? They have to vote for Scott or not vote at all. If they do that, and it sounds like you would, then you should self-ban yourself from FR for being an idiot.

“I’ve no need for or use of weak Repubics”

Scott is and has been from the beginning, one of the strongest Trump supporters....what in hell is wrong with you people? No wonder Republicans can’t hold a majority with turncoat voters like you.

“Scott is and has been from the beginning, one of the strongest Trump supporters”

What does that even mean?

Does Scott support our 2nd Amendment Rights?

Does he support our right to self defense?

Let’s ask George Zimmerman.

I am getting to the point of disgust with the purist tendencies of many posts on this site. Add to this a large helping of pessimism that verges on defeatism

If confronted with a choice between a communist — which is basically all any Democrat is these days — and a moderate GOPer, what does common sense tell us?

Well, my common sense tells me that I’d rather have someone who votes for freedom half the time than one who votes all the time to further enslave the American people.

But some here on FR evidently believe that it’s better to remain ideologically pure — and lose.

I was glad to vote for Rick Scott twice for governor. His leadership during last year’s hurricanes proved he was the right choice.
