Heez. Here I sit being able to choose from several file managers, as complex or simple as I want. Twin panes for easy drag and drop from one folder or drive to another.

When I open my program menu, I just start typing and it not only filters the programs, it can search for files and search the software repositories for other programs.

If I want fast, advanced search, there’s catfish which allows indexing any part of the system for really fast future searches.

Linux

It was a joke - apparently not a good one.

If I can’t run Leisure Suit Larry, then forget it!

No doubt. That game was hilariously un-pc. Loved it.

I really like the 'Dolphin' file manager that you can run under Linux (KDE). One of it's best features is that it understood the SSH protocol, so you could enter the following to browse to a file on an ssh server...

fish://myserver.whatever.com/Documents/

This will open a secure session to the server in question and allow you to browse directories and download files. It also understands smb:// for samba shares. Even cooler, you can have multiple systems up as separate panes of the same window and copy a file from remote system A to remote system B. Awesome.

I would be first in line. Opened the new 10 and promptly packed it to the closet and got the old 7 laptop fixed.

I donated my slick new Win 10 laptop to my husband and ordered a refurbished Win 7 Dell from a vendor on Amazon. It’s wonderful; I’m in Heaven! Well, maybe I’m only in Purgatory. I’ll achieve Heavenly status when I throw my Android in a drawer and re-activate my dumber phone.

Good Old File Manager returns ... PING!

You can find all the Windows Ping list threads with FR search: just search on keyword "windowspinglist".

Thanks to Auntie Mame for the ping!

If only it would allow us to play our old 95 and XP games.

You can play Win XP card games in Win 10. Just put the file "cards.dll" from XP into the same folder as the *.exe files for the games, such as sol.exe and freecell.exe. However, card size may be a problem, since those games were designed for smaller, lower resolution monitors than we use now.

Yeah, I like Dolphin also. It doesn’t actually need KDE to be running as window manager; probably does need KDE services but runs fine with other managers such as Xfce.

I copied the Pinball game to a Win 10 from an old XP we found when we moved. It worked great.

I downloaded the XP Sound Recorder file from an online site. Technically, it works. It records the short clips I want from CDs, but the quality is terrible.

The ribbons are the worst! Cut production time immensely. I used to do everything using keystroke shortcuts by not having to fool around with a mouse. That ended when the evil ribbon showed up (2007?). My Office 2003 program is gold. When we’ve moved over the years, Office 2003 and a flash drive of recipes are in my carry-on bag with my good jewelry.

Guys can’t do key strokes as well. But I use some of those shortcuts..maybe 10 or so. For personal use I use Word and Front Page from Office 2000. On my personal Windows 10 computers.

But the Win 10 file explorer has those cursed ribbons! I think I finally have the ribbons nailed down and know what to ignore 100%
